Six long years ago I ran a popular series called 20:07 where I shared freeze frames for various films at the 20th minute and 7th second of the film. T'was super fun and popular and every once in a while we bring it back. So here we are at the tail end of 2013! These are screencaps from the 20th minute and 13th second (or thereabouts - streaming titles do not always promote accuracy of screencapping) from films released this year that are already available for home viewing*
Which of these seven movies did you see? Do they bring back fond memories?
Feels as if the world is perfect. Like it's never going to end..."
Spring Breakers. James Franco's Alien enters seconds later. It is going to end.
I'd like to see the manager"
Funny. That's exactly what a lot of people said 20 minutes into Only God Forgives. If not sooner! But still, Kristin Scott Thomas cuts a mean profile and is always a joy to watch.
[What happened Chuck?]
In this scene in Lovelace, Linda has sprung Chuck from jail and he no like questions! Peter Sarsgaard, mortal enemy of subtlety, literally licks every single one of his fingers starting with the thumb before he explodes at his wife, breaking the silence. He doesn't just lick them, he deep throats them, pun intended but also: fact.
Slow down squirt, this party is for scare students only!"
I'd say this was a major coincidence to get the film's central conflict in the 20th minute and 13th second... but Monsters University hits this note often and hard. Poor Mikey!
What?! did you think she was a virgin?
I hated this movie, Prince Avalanche, but other critics were quite besotted.
-I love your shirt
-Thank you.[V.O. I loved her. I really did.]"
The Bling Ring. It's beautifully fitting that Sofia Coppola's films always improve with distance since they play like alternately sharp and hazy memories even the first time you're watching them.
Why don't you take off that mask and give me a kiss."
Iron Man 3, the year's most popular Action Film Romantic Comedy
*I can't share freeze frame from movies still in theaters via awards screeners or I'd be sent to prison! But maybe we'll sketch them out for you if you're good and you comment nicely.
