[Editor's Note: We Can't Wait is a weeklong Team Experience series, in which we highlight our top 14 most anticipated films of 2014. Here's Deborah Lipp on Gone Girl.]
Gone Girl
Loosely based on Gillian Flynn's best selling novel of the same name, the film tells the story of a woman who mysteriously disappears on the day of her wedding anniversary.
Talent
Directed by a modern master of American thrillers, David Fincher, and starring Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, and Patrick Fugit.
Plenty of reasons, most of them starting with David Fincher. As with his past three films, he is working off an incredibly popular book. I'm not a Fincher completist, and his movies haven't been uniformly great, but they're always interesting, and they're getting better with each release. He never downplays the complexity of the material and his films are always worth a second look.
Hollywood films often tends to use the same people in the same types of roles. We don't know why, but we do know that this cast doesn't look like anyone else's. It feels fresh. Let's set aside the love-him-or-hate-him Affleck, and applaud the presence of former Bond girl Rosamund Pike, enticing in An Education. Oh, and hey, I've been asking why I don't see more Patrick Fugit for twelve years. Going by previous collaborations with the director, Trent Reznor's involvement definitely doesn't hurt either.
But We Do Have To Wait
Warner Brothers will distribute the film on October 3rd, which is the same weekend that kickstarted The Social Network's successful awards season run.
