Chris Feil in Hany Abu-Assad, Idris Elba, Kate Winslet, The Mountain Between Us
Chris here. Summer is heating up, but feast your eyes on the wintery skies of The Mountain Between Us. The film stars Kate Winslet and Idris Elba as two strangers who must band together when their plane crashes in the mountains, forcing them to trek hundreds of miles to safety. The film arrives October 20, which puts it in prime Oscar season should the lead stars and film itself deliver the goods. Here is the first image of the film and some thoughts after the jump...
Here are my first thoughts:
This is not the "Kate Winslet and Idris Elba have sex in the wild" movie I asked for. I mean, they gotta keep warm somehow.
"You'll love the mountains! They're great! [bear emoji]" - DiCaprio texting Winslet
Is this just before they reach safety? They don't look too concerned about that whole "being stranded in the mountains" thing.
In seriousness, this is Hany Abu-Assad's English language debut which gives it extra Oscar cache. He's had two films nominated for Foreign Language film: Omar and Paradise Now.
I could swear I'd read that this film was being released in IMAX, but can't confirm. Ultra-sized actressing and hunkery? Yes please!
Let's hope this leans into the romantic side and less the disaster film side. The last large scale romance was... when?
These sure are two fashionable plane crash victims. It looks like Annie Liebovitz shot an ad campaign for a luxury hiking retailer.
No matter what, I am in for Winslet and Elba. What comes to your mind at this first image?
UPDATE - We now also have a trailer! Looks like love may not be in the air after all...
