Mmmmmhow we love a good teaser. One that tells you almost nothing about the movie or tv series other than an overal mood so as to preserve / prolong the pre-release excitement. Here comes the eight hour miniseries Sharp Objects starring Amy Adams and Patty Clarkson, two of the best actresses in the business, the latter of whom hasn't had a high profile great part in way too long...

Adams is a troubled reporter investigating the murder of two young girls in her hometown. Patricia Clarkson plays her estranged hypochondriac mother.

Jean-Marc Vallée, who everyone must know by now, is just brilliant with actors,  might be tempting fate by directing another female led murder mystery miniseries starring Oscar darlings so soon on the heels of the mega-success Big Little Lies. Neverthless we wish him well because if he and Amy succeed, here, truly we all win!

This is based on the Gillian Flynn novel of the same name, her third novel to be interpreted for film (after the brilliant hit Gone Girl and the little discussed flop Dark Places). Unless we're mistaken she didn't have much of a hand in the writing of the miniseries (barring the first hour) but thankfully she didn't give up screenwriting after acing her first try at it with Gone Girl . We continue to be pissed that  she wasn't Oscar nominated for translating her own book so superbly for a different medium. Her next screenplay is the female crime drama Widows (2018) starring genius Viola Davis and directed by the inimitable Steve McQueen (Hunger, Shame, 12 Years a Slave).
