Time to play Streaming Roulette. Each month, to survey new streaming titles on the various services, we freeze frame the films at random places and whatever comes up, that's what we share, no cheating! Today, we're looking at Prime and Hulu (which often have the same titles for some reason). Which of these will you be streaming this month for the first time or as a rewatch? Which would you most to see covered at TFE? Please do tell us in the comments.
Ready? Let's go...
I am NOT obsessed with it!
Burnt Offerings (1976) on Prime and Hulu
Karen Black alert! We were just talking about her. I think this movie is famous but I'm not sure why exactly. It's of the supernatural horror genre but horror is one of my weakest genres in terms of knowledge.
In tonight's performance the part of Juliet will be played by Virginia Delorean
Wonder Wheel (2017) on Prime
Kate Winslet and the Cinematography are both great in this movie. They risk going very saturated/theatrical but it works. If the rest of the movie were at their level we'd be talking.
Oh shit!
Universal Soldier (1992) on Prime and Hulu
There was a girl in this movie?!? All I remember is Lundgren and Van Damme ass. Fond memories.
STOP
The Wedding Plan (2016/2017) on Hulu and Prime
I really liked this Israeli romantic comedy. It's unique and the lead character is believably neurotic without seeming like she's scripted neurotic as women so often are in romantic comedies. From Rama Burshtein director of Fill the Void.
How do you like this odd little house? To me it's like heaven.
The Age of Innocence (1993) on Prime
Michelle Pfeiffer and Daniel Day Lewis back in the day. It's so special that they share a birthday and made one of their best movies together, isn't it? Strangely I don't think we've ever talked about this movie at the length at TFE but we need to this year for its 25th. Perhaps a scene by scene miniseries?
I've been a cooperative specialist in Switzerland and Europe. Hostage retrieval is my area of expertise.
I Tonya (2017) on Hulu
Uff. You guys I feel so lonely in disliking this movie but it really doesn't work for me. The film wants to have it in too many different ways. It's especially problematic with this buffoon who I didn't buy for one second.
Just when I thought this place couldn't get any worse... an old basement!
Leprechaun (1993) on Prime
Omg it's Jennifer Aniston. LOL. Isn't Leonardo DiCaprio in this too? Wait I'm thinking of some other low budget horror movie aren't I? (I've never seen any of these Leprechaun movies but Prime is streaming all umpteen of them at the moment.
Okay final one...
-Crash must have called him a cocksucker.
-God he's such a romantic.
Bull Durham (1988) on Hulu
I genuinely think Susan Sarandon should've won the Oscar for this (and that's saying a lot since 1988 was a superb Best Actress lineup and she wasn't even nominated!). What a world. What a world. To me Annie Savoy is her all time best performance. Bull Durham was a huge hit in 1988 but was only nominated for Best Screenplay and, really, it should've been up for a slew of Oscars including Best Picture. The only Best Picture nominee that year that outmatches it is Dangerous Liaisons. In a grotesque turn of events it also wasn't even nominated at the Golden Globes for Best Comedy which is REALLY odd considering how successful it was that year with critics and audiences. But 1988 was one of those years that really had short attention span problems and was extremely December heavy with awardage.
