Your TFE ringleader was dragging through this weekend, seeing only Shazam because a friend wanted to. But we WILL see lots of movies next week. Gotta make time for Mary Kay Place as Diane at the very least. Note: if it's not playing in your city, it's also available to rent online.

As for the public, they turned out for Shazam and Pet Sematary (the second largest opening for a Stephen King adaptation) but the low CinemaScore suggests that the latter will be a fast fade. The commercials for that one make our hearts go squishy soft which is not what the advertising department intended.

(We're in full Feed the Kitty mode when we see that mangy beauty on the highway. Just want to love him, give him treats, and scratch him under the neck, before and after bathing him.)

The other new wide release Best of Enemies performed below expectations but its audience was largely older and liked it (CinemaScore "A") suggesting it might have legs if it can hold on to theaters.

In limited release curiousity was high for Claire Denis's perverse outer-space oddity High Life -- you have to see Juliette Binoche in this picture to believe her! -- with a promising per screen average in four theaters. We're also heartened to see Diane and Transit performing pretty well. Their reviews must be helping.
