Just when you think it's safe to leave 2020 cinema behind, another award pops up! This time it's the 8th annual PLATINO Awards which are for Ibero-American films and television. The Best Film nominees are...

Forgotten We'll Be and La Llorona, the nomination leaders, were both Oscar submissions for 2020 and La Llorona made it to the finals though Oscar passed on an actual nomination. The Girls was the Best Film winner at Spain's Goya Awards this past March. COVID-19 has thrown off awards ceremony calendars all over the world and that continues to have a ripple effect since virtually no awards opted to skip 2020 year outright and save it up until now. Last years Platino awards were held later than usual virtually last summer with Spain's Pain and Glory (2019) emerging as the champ and taking home 7 prizes. The Platino Awards honoring 2020 films will be held even later on October 3rd in Madrid just a few months shy of 2022! At this rate they should probably place their 9th annual ceremony honoring 2021 until February 2023 and honor two years at once (2021 and 2022 films) so that they can get back on the traditional calendar!
