Our fifth official submission for the 95th Oscars Best International Feature Film race has been announced.

Uruguay (nothing from 22 submissions... though they had technially had 1 nominee but it was subsequently disqualified)
This movie has been kicking around film festivals since Cannes 2021 but it took until spring 2022 to hit theaters at home, hence the eligibility. It's a drama involving a tragedy and two men, one a ranch-owner and the other his 18 year old employee.
The Employee is played by Cristian Borges in his film debut. 36 year old Argentinian actor Nahuel Pérez Biscayart headlines as the Employer. Biscayart is arguably best known for French cinema but he works all over the place. In fact his recent track record is pretty stunning. He's now headlined or co-starred in Oscar submissions from five countries: Argentina (The Aura, Intruder), Austria (Stefan Zweig: Farewell to Europe), Belarus (Persian Lessons... though it was disqualified), France (BPM for which he won a César) and now Uruguay. He's trilingual (French, Spanish, and English) and can also do a little Chinese, German, Italian, and Portuguese if needed for a role (!!!) so who knows how many countries will eventually submit a film he's in?

Wouldn't it be fun to see this number of submissions climb and for one of his films to actually be nominated. That this didn't happen for the incredible BPM Beats Per Minute, which has to be among the 5 best films submitted by France in the past 40 years, is such a crying shame.
