Jose here. Can it be that the Golden Globes have now out-Oscared the Oscars in terms of incredible fashion? For a few years now, the stars have been saving their boldest looks for the Globes (Emma Stone's incredible pants combo! Felicity Jones' impressive Dior ball gown!) and this year the trend continues, as the stars wore their most idiosyncratic looks to the HFPA's annual open bar.
Top Ten Golden Globe Gowns after the jump
10. Amy Schumer in Prabal Gurung
For some reason comedians seem to like dresses with pockets, so what a joy it is to see A.Schu dressed like a princess in the very first couture gown she seems to be absolutely comfortable in. The slimming black and white scheme, and the effortless hair and makeup make this a true winner.
09. Julianne Moore in Tom Ford
Juli is just bragging by now, isn't she?
08. Amy Adams in Atelier Versace
It seems that winning a few Golden Globes was all Amy Adams needed to unleash her wilder side. Rather than going for severe (what Kate Winslet's style has become), or fussy (too much detail and quirk) she goes for Malibu Barbie in a stunningly sexy Atelier Versace gown. Letting down her auburn tresses and looking like she spent a month tanning in Bali make this absolutely ravishing.
07. Caitriona Balfe in Alexander McQueen
All bow to Claire Fraser! Can we all pretend this is what Rooney Mara wore instead?
06. Jane Fonda in Yves Saint Laurent
Perhaps the most divisive look of the night, most people agree the bottom is perfect, but the top had people joking about cake, bullfighting and more. What's so unique about it, is how much Fonda owns it. On a lesser celebrity, the dress would have owned them. On Miss Fonda, it's a defying piece of couture bliss.
05. Regina King in Krikor Jabotian
Regina King has been doing her couture homework...her look, by up and coming Lebanese designer Jabotian, seems inspired by Marion Cotillard's 2008 Bafta and Oscar dresses! The lovely Josephine Baker wavy hairdo and the smile were the perfect elements to round up her look.
04. Jennifer Lopez in Giambattista Valli
Judging from her expression, not even J.Lo believes how demure she looks. A vision in canary yellow, the Angelina leg is the only thing J.Lo-ish about the look. The rest is classic Hollywood glamour at its best.
03. Jennifer Lawrence in Dior
J.Law is once again paying tribute to herself, this is her third big bold red look, but judging from her original Calvin Klein in 2011, to her 2014 Dior (with the peplum), it's like she's writing a fashion history of the red dress, this time around showcasing something Judy Jetson would kill for.
02. Saoirse Ronan in Yves Saint Laurent
Ronan gets the "most improved" award. After a string of boho-chic playful looks, she has finally stepped out in an outfit worthy of making jaws drop. As discreetly sexy (she wins the award for most tasteful, but sensual, cleavage, unlike other starlets whose side boob was a malfunction waiting to happen) as it is regal, her hand-made, ivory silk dress (created by Hedi Slimane) hits all the right marks. Her clean makeup and delicate Chopard jewels round up this unforgettable moment.
01. Cate Blanchett in Givenchy
Sunday morning. Cate Blanchett, cigarette in mouth, dry martini on her nighstand, grabs her silver telephone dialer. Dozens of dresses lie on the floor...She dials a number. A phone rings in Paris...
Riccardo Tisci: Yes, my Queen?
Cate: (purrs) you flatterer...(takes a long drag from her cigarette. Like a kitten, Rooney Mara who is sitting nearby, is entranced by the smoke coming out of her mouth) Remember that collection you did in fall 2010?
Riccardo Tisci: Of course! What do you need?
Cate: This one (She snaps at Rooney, who sends him an image on her iPad)
Riccardo Tisci: Of course bella, I'll have them take it out of storage and sent to you first thing in the morning.
Cate: (Laughs) Don't be silly Riccardo, I need it in pink, and I need it tonight (hangs up).
And did you see that dress in motion?
Which were your favorite looks of the night?
