To celebrate this holiday commemorating those who've given their life in service to the country or who have passed on more generally, let's celebrate with beautiful movie stars in uniform but who are no longer with us after the jump...

Gary Cooper did not serve due to age and health but entertained the troops and played the war hero Sergeant York onscreen. He was given a Distinguished Citizenship Medal by the Veterans of Foreign Wars for his "promotion of patriotism and loyalty"
Jimmy Stewart was a decorated hero in World War II and the first movie star to serve in WW IIPaul Newman served in the Navy in WW II, 10 years before his film debutSteve McQueen was in the marines before becoming a movie star.
