Beauty Break: Movie Stars in Uniform

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
We'll still be posting this weekend but it'll be a bit lighter daily until Tuesday morning. To celebrate this holiday commemorating those who've given their life in service to the country or who have passed on more generally, let's celebrate with beautiful movie stars in uniform but who are no longer with us after the jump...
Gary Cooper did not serve due to age and health but entertained the troops and played the war hero Sergeant York onscreen. He was given a Distinguished Citizenship Medal by the Veterans of Foreign Wars for his "promotion of patriotism and loyalty"
Jimmy Stewart was a decorated hero in World War II and the first movie star to serve in WW II
Paul Newman served in the Navy in WW II, 10 years before his film debut
Steve McQueen was in the marines before becoming a movie star. (This photo is a promo shot for the film Soldier in the Rain)
Elvis in the army
Clark Gable joined the US forces after Carole Lombard's death
Henry Fonda as Mister Roberts (1955). He joined the war effort in 1942 with the famous quip "I don't want to be in a fake war in a studio"

Newman in that suit, YUM.
I haven't got many nice things to say about Henry Fonda but that quote is class.
I agree with Cal. Newman in the Navy is hot.
Finally, Jimmy Stewart is the man. My favourite male movie star of the 30's to 50's.
Wait, RobMiles, you don't like Henry Fonda? He's one of my favourites.
Yeah, Newman is insanely beautiful in that picture. Good god.
Slightly off-point (because it's simply a film still and not depicting reality) but relevant is this delicious shot of Gary Cooper and Franchot Tone in The Lives of a Bengal Lancer.

That link was weird. This is better. For context: there is a snake in the bungalow. Franchot Tone is trying to hypnotize it, Cooper to shoot it. Just to recap: the image is about snakes.

Elvis's face looks like marble in this pic. (I mean that in a good way.)
Arkaan - Henry Fonda as an actor is great but as a person not so much. But this made me respect him a bit more.
I'm pretty sure Clint Eastwood is still alive...
JEFF -- lol. omg. that was silly of me. (originally this post included lots more people
@ Jeff C & Nathaniel
As nitpicky as I can be (proofreader in me), I totally missed that too. LOL indeed.
Now you are talking about Movie Stars !!!
Paul Newman as a sailor brings a whole new meaning to Fleet Week.
NEWMAN oh my god no words can describe his beauty *SWOON*
