THE INVISIBLE WOMAN

INTERVIEW

Period detail, believable wear and tear and socioeconomic disparities, unfussy except when it needs to be  plunging necklines (on men and women), super sexy stars, fun textures and period horrors  catherine martin always seems to be the biggest star of baz luhrmann productions, yes?   it's not just black stylish fighting clothes but those furs framing Zhang Ziyi's beauty and the period glamour socioeconomic disparities, fussy bonnets, and dresses so heavy certain women are stationary
In the Dread Sixth Spot? My guess is that was Daniel Orlandi for Saving Mr Banks. But it could have been Ruth Carter (The Butler) or Trish Summerville (Hunger Games) or even  Kurt & Bart (Dallas Buyers Club) since their film is in races you wouldn't expect it to be in

CINEMATOGRAPHY NOMINEES

will / should win: Gravity
could upset: Inside Llewyn Davis... but not really
my ballot

Emmanuelle Lubeszki will finally get the Oscar he's long since deserved (pity that that would have to happen only now because of Oscar's new understanding of cinematography as a cgi accessory

this category now equals visual effects (they go together every year. sigh) people really dig its color palette but it looks super processed to me  deakins is a legend and he STILL hasn't won. what will it take?   candlelight and natural light witness the atrocities. richly filmed   wong kar wai movies love to indulge their dps
snubs... Sean Bobbitt was a horrific omission for the evocatively lit 12 Years a Slave. I also weep for Hoyt Van Hoytema (Her) because seriously, what does he have to do to get attention? Always brilliant.

the interiors of the ships, Sandra in the womb and what not. Can it win in a conflagration of 'the whole movie looks great' fever? I suspect she may snag "The Moulin Rouge categories" again... at least for noms A wonderful surprise nominee. So deserving but they often neglect sci-fi that's believably merely heightened now He does ultra specific funny work for Wes Anderson but shines in this new austere challenge Surely it can't be nominated in every category (though i'm betting big on it)
In the dread sixth spot?
I assume that was Dan Hennah for The Hobbit, the first of the Middle Earth Peter Jackson films to miss in this category despite BFCA & ADG nods.

FIRST NOMINATIONS!
DALLAS BUYERS CLUB

Just Missed? I'm a bit surprised that RUSH didn't make it since that team has often been nominated and people liked its editing. But the movie ran out of awards steam at just the wrong moment. Also I thought that the hero worship for THE WOLF OF WALL STREET's Thelma Schoonmaker would help her in but I was mistaken.
