Swan Lake is ever majestic and magical. Mansell is ever reliable. When preexisting music is this perfect for your vision... Fun, thrashy, with a great sense of garageband rough edges and miniature gems.
The hymns were an inspired choice, weren't they?
More hymns and earthy folk flavor.

Finalists: BURLESQUE hilariously obsessed with its flirty title but full of fun diva songs. I just wish there was a bit more variety. Practically all Christina all the time | THE RUNAWAYS it's hard to go wrong with ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb. Plus other oldies but goodies.

Semi-Finalists: TBA

TANGLED

Written by Diane Warren, Performed by Cher

a hooky survival anthem for the ages, though here it's temporarily fused to Cher's return.

Written and performed by Jónsi

Rousing and adventurous like the sweet exciting movie.

Written by Beck. Performed by Stephen Stills

"We are Sex Bob-Omb and we're here to make you think about death and get sad and stuff."

Written by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater. Performed by Mandy Moore & Zachary Levi in the film in a sequence that's so thrilling visually it probably didn't even need a song this good.
Written by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater. Performed by Broadway diva Donna Murphy (more on Murphy's musical and vocal performance)

Finalists: "Chanson Illusionist" THE ILLUSIONIST, "Welcome to Burlesque" BURLESQUE, "Little One" MOTHER AND CHILD,

Semi-Finalists: "We Are Sex Bob-Omb" SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD, "Shine" WAITING FOR 'SUPERMAN', "Bound to You" BURLESQUE

Sound Mixing

(finished soundscape: dialogue, score, effects all blended as one.)
127 HOURS THE ILLUSIONIST INCEPTION SALT THE SOCIAL NETWORK
Well timed silences, evocative musical flourishes and one lonely man's endless chatter and lust for life. "Love itttttt"
Sometimes the best sound comes in tiny handfuls. It's carefully sprinkled with delicate humor and fragile beauty.
Sometimes the best sound is a whole wall of it. It's erected all over the place creating shadows and weird alleys of feeling.
An action film that remembers that sound work can be as fun as a good stunt. It's as juicy as Angie's lips.
Big risks, big rewards: noisy clubs where you have to lean in, that out-of-time rowing match, and the mix on a killer score.

Finalists: TRUE GRIT because Coen Bros movies generally sound as good as they look, BLACK SWAN adds crazy on top of crazy -- this hall o mirrors also echoes and I AM LOVE really pushes towards the extremes, whispering and shouting with equal depth of feeling.

Semi-Finalists: MOTHER, A PROPHET, TOY STORY 3, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON

Sound Editing

(creation of aural elements, sound effects, overall sound design)
BLACK SWAN HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON INCEPTION SALT THE SOCIAL NETWORK
Deep inside Nina's jumpy headspace. God, it's noisy in there.
Do you know the different vocalizations of a Night Fury and a Gronkol? Now you do?
Buildings are raised. So is the hair on one's arms.
You can hear the bullets whiz right by Angie's black tresses. Don't they know she's bullet proof?
How can typing and sending been so exciting to watch and hear? It sounds as good as it looks.

Finalists: TRUE GRIT, TOY STORY 3, 127 HOURS,

Semi-Finalists: SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD, SPLICE, IRON MAN 2
