WHO WILL WIN?
Manchester by the Sea has the early edge but watch out for La La Land if it starts sweeping
WHO WAS LEFT OUT?
Captain Fantastic was surely in the running. As were Zootopia and Jackie. The Spirit awards liked The Witch and Little Men but other organizations didn't bite.

ADAPTED SCREENPLAY

Arrival
Eric Heisenberg (1st nomination!) from the short story "The Story of Your Life" by Ted Chiang

Fences
August Wilson (1st nomination!) wins a posthumous nomination for his classic stage play

Hidden Figures
Theodore Melfi and Allison Schroeder (1st nomination!) adapted the book by Margot Lee Shetterly

Lion
Luke Davies (1st nomination!) adapting the autobiography "Long Way Home" from Saroo Brierley

Moonlight
Barry Jenkins (1st nomination & WIN) adapted the unproduced play "In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue"

WHO WILL WIN?
Screenplay categories can sometimes surprise but Moonlight looks formidable for the win
WHO WAS LEFT OUT?
Loving and Deadpool had WGA nominations, Silence took the NBR, and Nocturnal Animals was BAFTA nominated. Curiously a film that should have been locked up in this category (Love & Friendship) never won any traction.
