NATHANIEL R in Batman, Bugsy, Jaws, Oscars (70s), Prince

On this day in history as it relates to the movies...

1893 Lizzie Borden acquitted of the axe murders of her dad and stepmom but everyone still thinks she did it. I still haven't seen that show where Christina Ricci played her. Oops.
1905 Lillian Hellman, playwright and screenwriter is born.
1909 Swashbuckler supreme Errol Flynn is born
1910 Fanny Brice debuts in "Ziegfeld Follies". The moment was recreated (see photo above from the Academy's archives) and heavily fictionalized of course, in Barbra Streisand's Funny Girl (1968)
1915 Director Terence Young is born. Goes on to kick off the Bond franchise with Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and Thunderball and direct Audrey Hepburn to her last Oscar nomination for Wait Until Dark (1967)
1928 Martin Landau is born. 66 years, 9 months, and 7 days he wins a well-deserved Oscar for Ed Wood (1994)
1941 Highly uneven but sometimes great director Stephen Frears (Dangerous Liaisons) is born. Next up for the Oscar darling: Florence Foster Jenkins starring Meryl Streep which has promising buzz thus far. We'll see how people responds when it opens.
1947 Candy Clark, a surprise Oscar nominee for American Graffiti, is born in Oklahoma. That same day Bugsy is murdered by the mob -- see Bugsy (1991) for the heavily Oscar-nominated details as well as awesome acting, costumes, and production design.
1952 John Goodman is born. Steals TV shows and movies thereafter in perpetuity.
1954 Himbo Miles O'Keefe is born. We'll talk about him tonight when we hit Tarzan the Ape Man (1981) in our "Swing Tarzan" series.
1960 John Taylor of Duran Duran fame is born. Later misses an Oscar nomination for 9½ Weeks for the Original Song "I Do What I Do (To Have You)"
1967 Goddess Nicole Kidman materializes in Honolulu whilst Muhammad Ali is convicted of violating the draft in Houston

This print is available in poster form at Easy. Isn't it clever?

1975 Jaws opens in theaters to phenomenal box office forever altering moviegoing by popularizing "the summer blockbuster". It goes on to a Best Picture nomination in one of Oscar's all time greatest shortlists (Barry Lyndon, Dog Day Afternoon, Jaws, Nashville, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) and wins the editing, sound, and score Oscars.
1989 Prince releases his Batman album to go with the Tim Burton movie
1997 Batman & Robin hits theaters. No Prince album this time. My Best Friend's Wedding, which deserved Oscar nominations as one of the very best modern rom coms, also debuts
2003 Hulk and From Justin to Kelly hit movie theaters. Both were fun to write about at the time
2014 Clint Eastwood's Jersey Boys and the Filipino Oscar submission Norte, the End of History open in US movie theaters; both are over four hours long
2017 Nicole Kidman hits the half century mark. We'll do it up real big right here at TFE.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NICOLE !
