Want some stats on this year's Film Bitch Awards which are now complete with medals galore? Okay, but only for you die-hards. The Oscars have 24 categories of which the film bitch awards share 19 (minus docs, foreign-language films, and the three shorts categories due to the strange distribution antics with niche forms). But we have 40 categories in total and we spread our net much wider, with fewer nominations for the frontrunners and more films overall recognized. That's not so much intentional as a natural byproduct of voting strictly on the categories at hand rather than pretending like each category is just another name for "best picture". A grand total of 59 features were honored in some way this year in our awards which is about average in terms of what tends to transpire here.
Most nominations for a single film: [TIE] Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Parasite (14 each)
Most nominations for a film that didn't make my top ten list: [TIE] Us and 1917 (9 each)
Most medals overall: Parasite (10)
Most gold medals: Parasite (8)
Most silver medals: Marriage Story (8)
Most bronze medals: A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (3)
Best showing in traditional Oscar categories: Parasite (8 noms with 6 wins)
Most nominations in the 9 acting categories: Marriage Story (5)
Most nominations for a film I did not like: MidSommar (3)
Fewest nominations for a film I completely loved: The Farewell (4)
Fewest nominations for one of Oscar's Best Picture nominees: [TIE] Ford V Ferrari and Jojo Rabbit (1 nomination each). For what it's worth I like both movies just fine (not a hater) but just not "five best" level in, it turns out, almost any category. These things happen.
Worst showing for a film on my top ten list: Woman at War (#8 on the top ten list... but at least it had lots of "finalist" mentions) and now I feel bad because it's great and I'm totally obsessed with what the director Benedikt Erlingsson might do next.
Most highly regarded film with 0 nominations: Honeyland (#15 of the year)
Lowest ranked film with a nomination: Cats which was one of the worst things seen last year... (1 nomination)
Golds only plz: [TIE] Missing Link, Honey Boy, and The Lighthouse all received only 1 nomination but took the gold medal in that category.
