NATHANIEL R in Adele, Alexandre Desplat, Grammys, Lady Gaga, Original Score, Original Song, Oscars (11), Patton Oswalt, Val Kilmer, short films

Given that roughly 193,026 musicians can call themselves Grammy nominees for the first time or again in the wake of last night's announcement (so many categories), we'd like to congratulate those nominees that are somehow connected to the movies. But before we do that, tell me who has your vote for "album of the year"?

I have the Gaga and Adele CDs and love both. Do you recommend the others?

Anyway... Silver screen type nominees & best music videos after the jump
Including: Val Kilmer, Patton Oswalt, Daniel Radcliffe and more...

COMEDY ALBUM:
Patton Oswalt, who is currently looking strong for a Supporting Actor nomination for Young Adult is a hominee for "Finest Hour". His competition includes Weird Al's "Alpocalypse", Louis CK's "Hilarious", Kathy Griffin's latest and The Lonely Island's "Turtleneck & Chain"

BEST SHORT FORM MUSIC VIDEO
(I include these because they are short films)
"Rolling in the Deep" - Adele
"Yes I Know" -Memory
"All is Not Lost" - OK GO
"Lotus Flower" - Radiohead
"First of the Year" -
"Perform This Way" - Weird Al

Very strange to see a Weird Al Gaga parody nominated but not a Lady Gaga video of any kind?

MUSICAL THEATER ALBUM:
Three nominees this year. "Anything Goes" has the great Sutton Foster and Oscar winner Joel Grey (Cabaret) as its main attractions, Harry Potter himself Daniel Radcliffe is on the "How to Succeed Without Really Trying" cast album and the likely winner will be "The Book of Mormon" because it wins everything.

SPOKEN WORD ALBUM:
Often you get movie stars in this category but this year the closest thing to that is Val Kilmer who did full cast radio drama of "The Mark of Zorro". He's up against two female awards magnets Tina Fey with "Bossypants" and Betty White's "If You Ask Me (And Of Course You Won't)". So perhaps he'll need to shred ballots with Mr Pointy to win.

And the actual movie categories follow in full...

MUSIC FOR VISUAL MEDIA FIELD

Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media
• "Boardwalk Empire: Volume 1" - (Various Artists)
• Burlesque - Christina Aguilera
• "Glee: The Music, Volume 4" - (Glee Cast)
• Tangled - (Various Artists)
• "True Blood: Volume 3" - (Various Artists)

It's like the Golden Globes with both TV and Movie nominations -- only they're all smooshed into the same categories. I have to root for Burlesque here because I'm not done rooting for it. Weird that Aguilera gets the nomination though and not Christina Aguilera AND Cher? What's that about?

Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media
• Black Swan - Clint Mansell, composer
• Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 - Alexandre Desplat, composer
• The King's Speech - Alexandre Desplat, composer
• The Shrine - Ryan Shore, composer
• Tron Legacy - Daft Punk, composers

Weird not to see The Social Network nominated, right? Did Desplat need two nominations? Good call on the Daft Punk nomination for Tron Legacy.

Best Song Written For Visual Media
• "Born To Be Somebody" (From Never Say Never) - Diane Warren
• "Christmastime Is Killing Us" (From "Family Guy") - Ron Jones, Seth MacFarlane & Danny Smith
• "I See The Light" (From Tangled) - Alan Menken & Glenn Slater (Oscar Nominee, 2010)
• "So Long" (From Winnie The Pooh) - Zooey Deschanel
• "Where The River Goes" (From Footloose) - Zac Brown, Wyatt Durrette, Drew Pearson & Anne Preven
• "You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me" (From Burlesque) - Diane Warren (Oscar Snubee, 2010)

The big question here is whether or not we'll see the Diane Warren Justin Beiber number, the Zooey Deschanel song or the Footloose track among the Best Original Song nominees at this year's Oscars? What'cha think?
