Greetings from Chris! As the newest member of Team Experience, I'm so grateful to be able to share my point of view with you loyal readers in a space for our collective obsessions, unique observations, and global perspectives. Thank you all!
So, I am thankful for
...all of the vibrant and fully-realized women in minor roles that populate Brooklyn. Any one of them could have their own film, and I want Jessica Pare's sales manager to be my bestfriend/life coach.
..."This makes me wish they had been able to find my father's remains" in Trainwreck.
...Jason Robert Brown. We got The Last Five Years on big (but mostly VOD) screens this year, but if his masterpiece "Parade" was getting the big screen treatment, this list would be entirely comprised of that news.
...Roger Deakins, always.
..."REMEMBER ME?!?!" in Mad Max:Fury Road and my immediate howl of alternating glee and horror.
...all the ways theft occurs (and assessed thematically) in Jafar Panhi's Taxi. And for Jafar Panahi!
... the open metaphor in It Follows and the range of specific interpretations that it allows.
...the Sundance Institute's Art House Project, which recognizes theatres that lead the industry for programming and community outreach, and recently selected one of my home theatres. Those of us outside of the big cities know how grateful we our to our art houses for the opportunities they bring us. Anyone else frequent one of this year's honorees?
... screenplays like The End of the Tour that find conflict through dialogue and human interaction rather than plot devices.
...all of the unspoken emotion Jeffrey Tambor gives his silences on Transparent.
...wowza debut performances like Krisha Fairchild, Arielle Holmes, and the Tangerine twosome!
AND, ETERNALLY:
...for sex god Oscar Isaac's Ex Machina dance moves. May we all feel grateful.
And, Naturally...
I'm thankful for Nathaniel and The Film Experience crew for taking me in and inspiring me with their continually passionate work!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
