Thanks for the discussion, all. Pointing out the obvious here, that almost all critiques and reviews seem to be from European-heritage people. That is only a possible explanation for the lack of attention to the topic addressed here. The post below identifies disturbing aspects to Ex Machina, that initially, I thought were simply consistent with character Isaac's misogyny and the whole notion of objectification of women in general, and consistent with given social/cultural defects in society at large. However, according to comments from the director shared by this blogger, I am now concerned about the Alex Garland's own possible arrogance and dismissal of this, which undercuts my original thoughts about the film.
