Cannes Winners

Haneke is always a winner at Cannes

Admission: never finished a Haneke film. Started Cache & White Ribbon. Found them intolerable..

-MURTADA

I was hoping a Palme d'or for Holy Motors might ensure I get to see the movie within the next 12 months. Palme or no Palme, the Haneke was bound to be released by the end of the year all the same.

Nathaniel & Nick Circa 1986

Since Nathaniel has been gagging on Aliens and Peggy Sue Got Married for their 25th anniversary year and Nick has been revisiting Cannes 1986 in all its sidebar and competitive glory we opted to join forces for a special edition of the podcast, spinning off from the 1986 film year.

We're also discussing Robert Altman's Fool For Love (1985), why Aliens (1986) is superior to both Alien (1979) and the 1986 "Best Picture" Platoon (1986). We also dig into Oscar's Best Actress Lineup: Sigourney Weaver, Kathleen Turner, Sissy Spacek, Jane Fonda and the winner Marlee Matlin. And share our choices for best film of 1986. We both wimp out and go with ties.
