HOW'D I DO ON MY PREDICTIONS? | ||||
WHAT WAS LEFT OUT? | ||||
It was a surprise to see Hilder Gudnadotti's score for Women Talking and Alexandre Desplat's Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio score left out since the buzz was with both of them and they're previous Oscar winners but Oscar's much branch had other favourites this year. The other finalists were Avatar The Way of Water, The Woman King, Nope, She Said, Black Panther Wakanda Forever, Don't Worry Darling, Devotion, and Glass Onion. We were frustrated to not see Danny Elfman's wonderful score for White Noise in the mix. |

WHAT WILL WIN? | ||||
We suspect this is Justin Hurwitz to lose for Babylon (the one thing about the film people seem to agree on) but on the other hand, maybe the Academy will feel sentimental and give John Williams his sixth Oscar for The Fabelmans? |
|
||||
"Lift Me Up" BLACK PANTHER WAKANDA FOREVER Tems and Rihanna (first nomination each), Ryan Coogler (first nomination*), Ludig Goransson (2nd nom) |
"This is a Life" |
"Naatu Naatu" RRR M.M. Keeravani & Chandrabose (first nomination and win each) |
"Applause" TELL IT LIKE A WOMAN Diane Warren (14th nom | 1 Honorary) |
"Hold My Hand" TOP GUN MAVERICK Lady Gaga (3rd nom* / 1 win), BloodPop (first nomination) |

WHAT WAS LEFT OUT? | ||||
It was very frustrating that, once again, songs that actually meant something to their movies and were not just humming along over end credits were left out like "Ciao Papa" from Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio or "New Body Rhumba" from White Noise or even "Good Afternoon" from Spirited. The other finalists were mostly also end credit songs like the nominees: "Carolina" Where the Crawdads Sing, "Till Your'e Home" A Man Called Otto, "Time" from Amsterdam, "Nothing is Lost (You Give Me Strength" from Avatar Way of Water, "Stand Up" from Till, "Dust and Ash" from The Vvoice of Dust & Dash, and "My Mind and Me" from Selena Gomez. Of the 80ish songs that were eligible that didn't make the finals we're most sad for the ones that actually meant something to their movies (the way it should be for this category). Songs like "U Know What's Up" from Turning Red, "Love is Not Love" from Bros, "Sunny Side Up' From The Bob's Burger's Movie, and "Still Holding My Hand" from Matilda the Musical some of which would have been better options than the nominees. |

"Naatu Naatu" from RRR is the clear favourite and deservedly so. It's also the one that actually gets a tremendous scene within the movie. This category wouldn't be so irrelevant if they chose more nominees and winners this way. |

ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT |
AVATAR WAY OF THE WATER |
THE BATMAN |
ELVIS Andy Nelson (24th nom / 2 wins), David Lee (3rd noms, 1 win), Michael Keller and Wayne Pashley (first nomination each) |
TOP GUN MAVERICK Mark Weingarten and Mark Taylor (5th nom / 2nd win each), James Mather Chris Burdon (2nd nom and 1st win for each), Al Nelson (first nom and win) |

The other finalists were Babylon, Moonage Daydream, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Black Panther Wakanda Forever, and Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio. Films that didn't make the finals but ABSOLUTELY should have were Nope and TAR. |
||||
WHAT WILL WIN? | ||||
It would be a surprise if Top Gun Maverick lose this but if it does we think the spoiler would be Elvis. |
