AND THE NOMINEES ARE

Best Original Score
Thomas Newman
1917
Hildur Gudnattsottir
JOKER

Emile Mosseri
THE LAST BLACK MAN IN SAN FRANCISCO

Randy Newman
MARRIAGE STORY
Alberto Iglesias
PAIN AND GLORY
Appropriate sweeping and potent. Newman is one of the greats.
Brooding heavy cellos and quite unsettling too. Hildur has a bright future ahead   Lush and stirring and a great fit for the movie's epic intimacy.
Playful, precise, and lullaby like in its simplicity. Melancholy too
The beauty. Iglesias and Almodovar continue to be a perfect match... with range, too.
Runners Up

Finalists: Love Theodore Shapiro's use of a trio of voices warbling in several passages like whispers or unverbalized thoughts roaming around that tense office in Bombshell | And hey how about that soundscape in Atlantics  by Fatima Al Qadiri
Semi Finalists: The Farewell, Godzilla King of Monsters, Parasite, Ad Astra, and Little Women

Best Adapted Score, Combination Score, or Song Score
*not an Oscar correlative traditional category - anything song heavy or that uses both old & original music *

Yes, it's trying to be the next "Let it Go" but the storytelling, when paired with its second act twin
"Show Yourself," works beautifully.
If only there were more of singing within the film itself! But we'll take this closing anthem and the bits of her beautiful disembodied vocals in the dark woods.  This late-in-film song is a terrific character piece, if first-draft feeling song as befitting the spent former rock goddess trying to work it (and her issues) out simultaneously.   A poppy celebratory (self) love-in between actor and famous man he's playing as the credits roll? Yes please. Especially after all the therapy within.   As a drama this one isn't so special outside of its music. But that voice! Talk about ending on a high note. Great song. Great scene. Great character arc closure.
Runners Up

Finalists: Frozen II "Show Yourself" (if you pretend this is a major reworked reprise of "Into the Unknown" and fuse them together it's one super  song rather than two good ones!)  and, yes,  Cats is a mess but we like Taylor Swift's "Beautiful Ghosts"

Semi Finalists: Frozen II "Lost in the Woods" and "The Next Right Thing", Her Smell "Can't Wait" High Life "Willow," Yesterday "Summer Song"

Best Sound Mixing
Think overall soundscape. They record while filming and later blend multiple sources (dialogue, effects, music, etcetera) for finished sound design
