READER'S CHOICE - Vote Daily
|
||||
How'd I do on my predictions?
3/5 Missed JK Simmons (Being the Ricardos) who I feared placing here as well and Jesse Plemons (Power of the Dog) who I suspected might given the strength of his film. But instead I assumed incorrectly that voters would stick closely to the precursors and go with Bradley Cooper (Licorice Pizza) and Jared Leto (House of Gucci)
Who was left out? | ||||
In a surprising season several of those who scored well with precursors were left out including Ben Affleck (Globe, SAG), Bradley Cooper (SAG), Jamie Dornan (Globe, Critics Choice), Jared Leto (SAG, Critics Choice), and less surprisingly Mike Faist (BAFTA) was shut out despite totally reinventing "Riff" in West Side Story
Who WILL win? | ||||
This is Kodi Smit-McPhee's to lose but he could. Though he has the lead given Power of the Dog's overall strength and a small mountain of critics prizes, the Academy can be stingy with young actors. He's only 25 which would make him the second youngest of all time to win in this category after Timothy Hutton in Ordinary People. The other real possibility here feels like Troy Kotsur given a moving performance, a great narrative, and a film they probably won't be awarding elsewhere but might really love.
Who SHOULD win (Nathaniel's choice)
My vote goes to Kodi Smit-McPhee among this lineup but my ballot is much different
