How'd I do on my predictions?
4/5 I thought Dolly De Leon (Triangle of Sadness) would pull through over Stephanie Hsu. The other "harder" gets for Triangle of Sadness (Picture/Director) suggest that she was thisclose in sixth place. And we had wanted her to win the Oscar so this is a bummer!
Who was left out? | ||||
Dolly De Leon (Triangle of Sadness) was the most glaring snub given her vast acclaim and the precursor attention. She was even nominated at the Globes which tend to ignore the less famous players. The other most high profile omission given precursor attention was definitely Janelle Monae (Glass Onion). But precursors were somewhat volatile in this category all season so several performances had buzz at one point or another that didn't materialize at the Oscars including Jessie Buckley & Claire Foy (Women Talking) and Nina Hoss (TÁR) and category frauders Carey Mulligan (She Said) and Keke Palmer (Nope) who campaigned here despite lead roles. |
||||
Who WILL win? | ||||
This appears to be sewn up for Angela Bassett in a "Lifetime Achievement" kind of way. If she had already won an Oscar we'd fully expect that this statue would be handed to Kerry Condon, given the popularity of her film and no internal competition in her category. UPDATE: Shortly after the GLobes & Critics Choice, when it felt "sewn up", Kerry Condon won the BAFTA and Jamie Lee Curtis won SAG and momentum favors the other screen legend in the race, leaving Bassett behind. |
