Harriet Samson Harris "Barbara Rose" PHANTOM THREAD |
Vella Lovell
"Khadija" THE BIG SICK |
Nataliya Potapova
"Zhenya's mother" LOVELESS |
Her professional air, faux concern, and total poker face, gifts Get Out with one of its best jokes. Wonderful comic timing in her great scene with LilRel Howery. | Monster Mom Pt 1. Bartlett, often cast for her wry humor, does an about face for this hateful utterly unfunny woman, the source of hand-me-down miseries. | ![]() |

LaKeith Stanfield "Andrew King" GET OUT |
Charismatic in an arguably pervy kind of way as the G String King. It's easy to see why the characters go for it.
|
Memorable as a selfless man, unconcerned for his own life in order to save as many children as he can. | ![]() |

Raffey Cassidy "Kim Murphy" KILLING OF A SACRED DEER |
Noah Jupe "Jack Will" WONDER |
Sophia Lillis "Beverly" IT |
Brooklynn Prince "Moonee" THE FLORIDA PROJECT |
Izabela Vidovic "Via" WONDER |
This great young actor (fine recently in Tomorrowland) handles the film's difficult tone with aplomb. | ![]() |

This family drama is full of fine warm performances. Vidovic grants the film a soulful sadness, too, as the loving but lonely sister. |
Finalists: Sunny Suljic is haunting once he gets sick as "Bob Murphy" in The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Ahn Seo-hyun as "Mija" in Okja ably carries the film and never once feels like she's acting against a green screenl but an actual giant mutant pig / best friend. Semi Finalists: McKenna Grace as "Mary Adler" in Gifted, Oona Lawrence as "Amy" in The Beguiled, Chandler Head as "Youngest Jeanette" in The Glass Castle, Jacob Tremblay as "Auggie" in Wonder, and Christopher Rivera as "Scooty" in The Florida Project |
Breakthrough Performer
(the primary criteria is 'early in big screen career' -- with "early" given a bit more leeway for international performers since not all their films come here -- and 'how badly do we want to see them in another film right away?!' If an actor is nominated in one of the four traditional acting categories they are not eligible for this prize.) discuss |

So much exciting fresh talent to watch. Plus subversive deployment of familiar talent (Whitford, Keener, Williams all doing great work) |
