How'd I do on my predictions?
3/5 Missed Don't Look Up and Parallel Mothers but I did correctly guess Encanto so points for me there.
What was left out?
The French Dispatch with BAFTA and Globe nominations was the big miss in this category. What's more that score came from Alexandre Desplat, one of Oscar's favourite composers. Other finalists that were not nominated included BAFTA nominee Being the Ricardos (Daniel Pemberton), Tragedy of Macbeth (Carter Burwell), The Harder They Fall (Jeymes Samuel), Harry Gregson-Williams (The Last Duel), King Richard (Kris Bowers), No Time To Die (Hans Zimmer), The Green Knight (Daniel Hart), Candyman (Robert Aiki and Aubrey Love), and Spencer (Jonny Greenwood)

Films that weren't eligible at all included House of Gucci, Licorice Pizza, Respect, A Quiet Place Part 2. Some high profile or well liked scores that did not make the finals included Nicholas Britell's Cruella, Ramin Djawadi's Eternals, Stephen Price's Last Night in Soho, and Nathan Johnson's Nightmare Alley

How'd I Do On My Predictions?
4/5 Missed the Diane Warren number foolishly thinking they'd want a break and go for something more film relevant like "Just Look Up" from Don't Look Up, the rare finalist this year that is actually played in its entirely in the movie and as a plot point. But since the rule changes the music branch doesn't care about relevancy that much anymore. So lots of end credit songs.
What was left out
Globe nominee "Here I Am" from Respect, Critics Choice Nominee "Guns Go Bang" from The Harder They Fall, but we're saddest about The Sparks "So May We Start" missing for Annette since, like "Just Look Up" it was film relevant. Other finalists were "Right Where I Belong" from Long Promised Road, "Beyond the Shore" from CODA, "Dream Girl" from Cinderella, "Automatic Woman" from Bruised, "Anonymous Ones" from Dear Evan Hansen, and "Your Song Saved My Life" from Sing 2.

The Academy did not release the list of the 84 eligible songs this year (again -- why did they stop doing this?) but some films we know they didn't choose as finalists included multiple songs from the animated movie Belle, "Home All Summer" from In the Heights, "Every Letter" from Cyrano, "Fire in the Sky" from Shang-Chi, "Lead the Way" from Raya and the Dragon, "Breathe" from The First Wave, "The Harder They Fall" from The Harder They Fall, "Believe" from The Rescue, "Cruella" from Cruella, "Blome Swete Lilie Flor" from The Green Knight, and "Keep the Beat" from Vivo

web survey
How'd I do on my predictions?
4/5 as I assumed they'd want to honor the year's biggest blockbuster Spider-Man No Way Home (also a Guild nominee) here and didn't imagine they'd choose Belfast. Oops. They also skipped
What was left out?

They skipped BAFTA nominees A Quiet Place Part 2 and Last Night in Soho, as well as the sci-fi franchise reboot Matrix Resurrections, and the supernatural thriller Last Night in Soho.

The finalist list was heavy on mainstream blockbuster and musicals but some films that did not make the list which you could have reasonably hoped for given either their brilliance in that area or the type of film (big noisy mainstream hit, best picture contender, or music focused) included: CODA, Don't Look Up, Encanto, Free Guy, The French Dispatch,  The Harder They Fall, In the Heights, The Last Duel, Licorice Pizza, King Richard, Nightmare Alley, Respect, Tragedy of Macbeth.
