We were saddest to see the beautiful screenplay of The Farewell and Pain and Glory shut out. Other possibilities were critical favourites Uncut Gem and Dolemite is My Name.

It was a weak year for adapted screenplay with very few possibilities for them that weren't franchises (which are always considered adapted) but of the movies missing we are frustrated they didn't go for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Longer interesting shots like Hustlers and Luce would have been cool, too.
