My Amazing 100% Accurate BAFTA Predictions

I predict that the British Academy of Motion Picture Arts an--- Oops, The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (how did i ever confused their title with Oscar's title?) -- will choose...

[drumroll]

...whatever they think will be Oscar nominated*! This will be my first ever 100% accurate across the board predictive score. Marvel at my genius in the comments. Their nominations will be announced tomorrow (if you need a reminder here's the "long lists") and a fuller report will follow. But today stay tuned for Globes after-glow and some requisite catching up on movie news and the like.

If you're just popping in to see what we've been up to... where have you been? But you can scroll down for  Globe Live Blogging, and don't miss the Black Swan conversation (heh) or the Film Experience's Top 10 of 2010. More of this site's own awards coming later today.

*i.e. an amalgam of the BFCA, Globe & SAG nominations with the rare totally volatile 5th spots going to homegrown fare so that the "British" in their title retains some meaning.

It's British Academy of Film and Theatre Arts. Hence "BAFTA" ;)

"...with the rare totally volatile 5th spots going to homegrown fare so that the "British" in their title retains some meaning."

BAFTA have so entirely sold their soul to AMPAS at this point that I can't even watch. What should be an opportunity to publicise and support British film alongside the best of international film turns into an excercise in currying favour with the Big Money. It always feels like the British films are sent away to sit at the Kiddie table, with the exception of one big crossover hit (In this case, The King's Speech). If Another Year manages to get nominated for Best Film, rather than best-film-from-round-these-parts-no-don't-mind-us-really-we're-just-so-glad-you-could-make-it-Mr.-Depp, I'll be so surprised I'll need to down a Mary-sized quantity of wine, when it should be a no-brainer. Fingers crossed...

I think it's a CIA plot, like the one in The Ghost Writer. Just substitute a few words: "Do BAFTAs ever make a decision that isn't good for Hollywood?"

January 17, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSan FranCinema

...which is no doubt why they haven't paid The Ghost Writer much attention. It knows too much!

I'm expecting the one interesting difference to be a supporting nod (and then possible win) for Lesley Manville. I don't know whether there is time for it to help her gain some Oscar momentum in that catergory. I must see the Baftas made me proud to be British when they crowned Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson for Lost in Translation (Scarlett was robbed blind of her deserved Oscar nom because of that stupid supporting campaign) but then I was ashamed when Thandie Newton (Crash) won over Michelle Williams (Brokeback).

Of course I meant 'Must say' Sorry!

I miss the days when BAFTA had completely off the wall yet deserving nominations. Such as nominating Eddie Murphy as Best Supporting Actor for Shrek.

Sorry but I am so glad that you were at least partly wrong! These don't look like predictions for me but I am so happy about their nominations:

JAVIER BARDEM!!!

JULIANNE MOORE!!!

BARBARA HERSHEY!!!

PETE POSTLETHWAITE!!!

MARK RUFFALO!!!

LESLEY MANVILLE!!!

MIRANDA RICHARDSON!!!

BOYLE DIRECTOR!!!

The actress and supporting actress categories are quite different to others this season (Moore, Rapace, Steinfeld / Hershey, Manville, Richardson) and I am really glad that they are shaking up things quite a bit.

January 18, 2011 | Unregistered Commentercinephile

Yeah!! Miranda Richardson just got her seventh Bafta nomination!!

Hello. My name is Tom and I would like to tell you a story about a girl.

Her name is Jessie. Jessie and I seemed like the perfect couple, or so I thought.

However, when I came home to her in MY bed with ANOTHER man, I got angry.

So, this website is dedicated to you and that ugly ass fucker that was humping you that lovely afternoon.

FUCK YOU Jessie.

Please help me!
