Whither Mad Men?

Perhaps it's premature to worry that 2011 will hold no new episodes of Mad Men but I am hearitly enjoying the outcry that followed Matthew Weiner's recent statement that he has no idea when they're going back to work of even if Lionsgate and AMC will work it out financially. Even Anderson Cooper is bitching on CNN. Staying off the air too long can seriously damage a series. People do move on. Even from something as wondrous as Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce.

Money changes everything.

(What are you watching on the small screen these days? I'm totally obsessed with Downton Abbey)

Just SO glad that Parks and Recreation is back. Also loving Cougar Town and Parenthood (though both are fairly hit or miss).

Don't laugh, but The Tudors. :P

Shameless with Emmy Rossum and William H. Macy. Both future Emmy winners, in my very humble, delusional opinion.

We're watching "Dollhouse" on Netflix. It seems to alternate between stretches of brilliance and stretches of awful filler. Great cast, though, even if Dushku is at the center. The other actors fill in the empty space left by her acting. And I love that Harry Lennix basically plays Barack Obama.

Fringe, Nikita and The Good Wife are the shows I'm keeping up with at the moment. I think Nikita is one of the only shows I've seen that would fail the reverse-Bechdel test- the male characters are so crappy compared to the ladies. Maggie Q even has a dead fiance!

I hope they work it out for Mad Men- I don't know if I could move on, I'm stilll sad over Deadwood.

I totally fell for BBC's surprisingly good modern take on Sherlock Holmes. Well worth your time.

How much do I want my own valet or footman? Downton Abbey is so lovely. We're also finishing up Season 1 of Damages on Netflix. Should we head right on to Season 2 or try The Wire next?

Catching up with all of 30 Rock on Netflix at the gf's request. It's funny, because I'm staying with my older sister right now, and she just *is* Liz Lemon. The junk food, the writing, the catchphrases: it's weird.

"Downton Abbey" is the *best*. I'm a huge fan.

I'm catching up with "Breaking Bad" in repeats. It's really good so far. Otherwise, it seems like all the shows I really look forward to each week are sitcoms (quite a change from a few years ago). "Modern Family," "Cougar Town," "Community," and "Raising Hope."

Nat, do you ever watch "Cougar Town"? I sometimes think of you when I watch it because I know how (rightfully) disgusted you get with gay panic jokes, and "Cougar Town" doesn't go within a mile of them. The guys on that show are always telling each other how good looking they are, how nice they smell, and one guy even told another one that he secretly kisses him on the forehead after he falls asleep.

It's so refreshing to see guys express their admiration for each other without following it up with a "but, you know, I'm not gay or anything."

This really sucks how shows cannot get it together. I remember when "The Sopranos" was off for something like two years. The show never lagged in quality IMO, but it was hard to remember where everything had left off.

I've heard a lot about Downton Abbey; you may have pushed me over the edge into wanting to see it.

Castle, No Ordinary Family (for some reason), V and quite a few shows on The CW. Unfortunately, most of the shows I really loved (LOST, 24, Heroes) ended last season.

i am also totally obsessed with "downton abbey." like fellowes's "gosford," i find the staff drama more compelling. but esp. luuuuv the "baddies": the lady's maid o'brien and the first footman thomas. thomas's rosy cheeks. whoo.

Southland is easily the best drama "currently" on tv. I usually never watch cop shows, but this one is well written, acted, and just top notch in every regard. The most recent episode that aired was just a gut punch. Great, great stuff. And of course, 30 Rock. The show is firing on all cylindars this year, showing all those new kids that it's still at the top of its game.

I saw that Weiner article, but Bryan Cranston mentioned yesterday that he thinks "Breaking Bad," "Mad Men," and "The Walking Dead" are all coming back on the air together this July. Hope he's right!

I know it's not recent, but I JUST finished The Wire. It makes me want to start watching Treme.

I'm loving Downton Abbey.

Maggie Smith is magnificent! "What is a weekend?

Elizabeth McGovern is also terrific.

Rick -- the amazing thing about Maggie Smith is that she has been playing some variation of that part for her entire career and IT NEVER GETS OLD. she's so brilliant at it. (and normally i do not like it when people repeat themselves this much) and it's like anyone else playing haughy bitchy regal dowagers is just wasting their time.

no one does it better.

This past few days I started with Misfits. Only 3 left to go. Very quotable...
British tv with their 6 episode long seasons are so much better than american ones.. They get straight to the point, no filler episodes. And less time consuming hehe
