Downton Abbey Returns. The Emmys Are Coming.
Pssssst. Don't tell any Kate Winslet fans* but I'm secretly rooting for Downton Abbey to totally own Mildred Pierce this weekend at the Emmys.
*oops. That's like everyone reading. And me.
Whatever, Downton Abbey is primo tv, obscenely addictive. Closing Statement: Mildred Pierce doesn't have Maggie Smith. I rest my case.
P.S. I'll be live blogging and tweeting the Emmys this weekend so check in, won'cha?

I want Mildred Pierce and Maggie to win. :D
totally agree. if downton doesn't win it'll be a bigger scandal than that time mr pamuk came to stay
Hm. Started to watch it on Netflix instant streaming after all the hype I've heard about it and I fell asleep after 20 minutes. I'll definitely cheer for Mildred Pierce but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want Maggie Smith to win.
Maggie Smith has a 2012 film based in India with Judi Dench has her co-star, Fox Searchlight is releasing, the footage of her in the trailer screams Oscar No.3.
Absolutely agree. Downtown was just better in every way - not that Mildred wasn't a fine piece of work itself. And that preview totally gave me chills. I cannot WAIT!
I'm rooting for Downton Abbey as well*. Dame Maggie better win as well. I know that PBS will do anything in their power for that not to happen, but I think that Downton Abbey should be competing in Drama series category and not Movie/Mini. It's a TV show with 8 episodes each season and it ain't going anywhere.
Couldn't care less about Ms. Winslet, sorry.
/3rtfull,
That's John Madden's (of Shakespeare in Love fame) THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL.
It has Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Dev Patel, Bill Nighy and Tom Wilkinson.
People who saw the film have said that it's a lightweight candidate for 2012 Oscars, with Dench and Smith as potential nominees.
Maggie Smith over Wolverine any day :)
@ /3rtfull, "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" will be released in March
but I think Oscar no.3 might be "Quartet", which is directed by Dustin Hoffman.
Just read the storyline:
"Cecily, Reggie and Wilfred are in a home for retired opera singers. Every year, on October 10, there is a concert to celebrate Verdi's birthday and they take part. Jean, who used to be married to Reggie, arrives at the home and disrupts their equilibrium. She still acts like a diva, but she refuses to sing. Still, the show must go on... and it does."
Maggie Smith is Jean, of course!
I'm a huge Winslet fan but I don't mind you wanting something else to win. But I don't get your reasoning. Since when are you a bigger Maggie Smith fan than a Winslet fan?
Excited for the live-blogging though I might be asleep the whole time. There's always tomorrow.
I’ve been infatuated with Winslet since 1995, so I’m obviously rooting for her even though I haven’t seen Mildred Pierce yet. Downton Abbey was superb. I would love to see it upset. And Dame Smith for the win, for sure. Fist pumpingly good, she was. (And she is nominated in a different category than Winslet, so fortunately there’s no Maggie vs. Kate duel to worry about, here).
Maggie Smith for the win, for sure!!!! She was freaking good in Downton Abbey, I would love to see her take the trophy! Also, I'm completely addicted to the series, can't wait for the premier of S2, or the Emmys. Haven't seen Mildred Pierce yet, but soon it will happen. Oh, and thank you for mentioning TV series here, Nathaniel :))).
That's a great version of U2's "With Or Without You".
I love Downton.
Maggie Smith already has an Emmy. I love her but I'm rooting for her 3rd Oscar instead of a subsequent Emmy. Winslet and Bates should win on Sunday...Titanic/Revolutionary Road reuion love fest.
In adding it to my Netflix queue, it says "Recommended based on your interest in: My So-Called Life, Battlestar Galactica and Mad Men" ha!
Katie -- that's funny but at least Netflix understands you valu QUALITY over sameness ;)
