There's a scene in the former where Owen's distraught father is surfing the internet posing as a teenager girl to track down his daughter's molester and it just naturally takes to him and Jude cyber-sexting in Closer which THEN made me think how underrated the movie was and how even though I loved Natalie and Clive's work Julia was excellent and Jude was just superb (best-in-show) for me.
The last movie I saw was Drive and I admit that during it my mind wandered to Chinatown because every film professor I've ever had is obsessed with how it's the greatest movie ever made, and I began making comparisons. There's a surprising amount of similarities. You have an "outsider" director, both in the sense of being from a foreign country and of being outside of mainstream Hollywood, taking on the film noir genre and putting a modern spin on it. You have the morally-questionable protagonist who's run-ins with a femme fatale (in Drive's case, an unwitting one in Carey Mulligan's Irene) lead him straight into the heart of his world's darkness. And there's that sense of dread hanging over the narrative that makes it seem like everything was inevitable, and that it will just keep repeating itself.
