Haneke is always a winner at Cannes

Admission: never finished a Haneke film. Started Cache & White Ribbon. Found them intolerable..

-MURTADA

I was hoping a Palme d'or for Holy Motors might ensure I get to see the movie within the next 12 months. Palme or no Palme, the Haneke was bound to be released by the end of the year all the same.

Curio: Peter Strain Illustration

Alexa here. I recently came upon the work of Peter Strain and was instantly wowed.  Peter is an illustrator living in Belfast who has a vibrant, ink-saturated, dirty design aesthetic. He also happens to be the artist-in-residence at the Queens Film Theatre in Belfast, so he has focused much of his time on film posters for the indie cinema house.  And, lucky for us, he is selling prints of many of these posters at his shop. Here is a sampling, but really, you should check out all his work here.

More including Memento and The Lost Boys...

I go to Queen's University in Belfast and am regularly in the Film Theatre where many of these posters are on display. Nice to see Strain's great talent being appreciated and recognised on a more international level. There's an 'American Beauty' poster by Strain which is so hauntingly beautiful; it grabs my attention every time I pass it.

i think the milk carton LOST BOYS is just incredible. So a great detail to focus in on and use as the iconography
