Just Sayin'

This should be an Oscar.

And Natalie Wood shouldn't have to share it!

P.S. What the hell statue is that?

Is the biggest prize Wood's ever received—a Golden Globe?

If I remember correctly from this Natalie Wood documentary I have saved on my Tivo from three years ago, it's an award Natalie is accepting on behalf of the deceased James Dean.

She was such a rare creature. I have seen Splendor in the Grass about 20 times, and love it every single time. Her performance in that was thrilling and moving. I'm sorry she lost to Sophia.

You may remember, Nathaniel, that Wood is still the love of my life... ever since I was 12 and saw "Rebel..."

Ernie C. is right about the award. Natalie received the Golden Globe for the TV miniseries "From Her to Eternity" ... she also won 1 or 2 f Globes for World's Favorite Actress... that stopped in the 60"s. She was nominated for the Globe about 6 times for acting, but never won. Also, 3 Oscar noms ... and yes, she should have won for "Splendor"

Ugh, I just love her so much. It's been said before, but whatever, it must be said again: she should have won for Splendor In The Grass. And maybe even more so for Love With A Proper Stranger, one of the many forgotten gems of the classic Hollywood era. Natalie Wood and Steve McQueen have a one night stand and seek an abortion...how is that not on DVD yet??? I mean really. Who controls these things?

everyone -- but does anyone know what this award is? the statue i mean. I don't recognize it!

TB -- i'm dying to see that again actually.

YES!!!! "Love with a Proper Stranger" is glorious. It's a really sweet love story that's modern not just for its themes but for how it approaches "romance" and comedy and Natalie is perfection. (And McQueen is great, too.)

This looks like something you'd get for winning a high school sports match. Did Grace and Natalie play doubles badminton?

I think "LWTPS" is Natalie's best performance ever... she was very natural in it.

Even though I loved her, she was not the greatest of actresses.. she was one that really needed a good director.

I agree that Love with the Proper Stranger, and also Inside Daisy Clover, might be her best performance. I guess Robert Mulligan had a lot to do with that.

Nat-I don't know a lot about them, but it's an Audience Award, a sort of People's Choice Award. Dean won Best Actor posthumously-Jennifer Jones won Best Actress

It is the Audie Award from the Audience Awards Election from 1955. I am pretty sure this was the only year they were given out because of problems tabulating a nationwide audience vote. Here is a picture of Jennifer Jones with her "Audie" http://www.myspace.com/darkirish76/photos/13914697#%7B%22ImageId%22%3A13914697%7D

OH...And Natalie was accepting for James Dean, the winner. Grace Kelly was presenting.

October 20, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSteven

Oohh Grace Kelly was SO beautiful back then!

From a news report: The winners of the first Audience Awards Election were announced on Dec. 6, 1955, to a festive gathering of Hollywood notables at a banquet in the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel.

By popular acclaim of movie-goers throughout the country, the late James Dean and Jennifer Jones were declared to have given the best performances in pictures released from Oct. 1, 1954 through Sept. 30, 1955. Ms. Jones won for her Oscar-nominated role in Love Is a Many Splendored Thing.

From me: Jennifer is my favorite actress. She is criminally underrated and deserves a much greater legacy than she is afforded by film scholars.
