My first thought was....The Wiz?

A total wild-card guess, just because I want to play:
Batteries Not Included ??

First poster's right. The quote gave it away. It's definitely The Wiz.

The Wiz! Diana Ross was egregiously miscast, but I love this movie anyway.

Definitely the Wiz. Love that song, too.

Yes, definitely THE WIZ. I was one of the only white guys in the theater. Believe me, THAT was an experience I'll always remember! It was awesome!

Aw, The Wiz! I was JUST watching very randomly this early morning on Netflix too.

A marvel in all the crafts to be sure, especially the creative art direction with the whole NYC-reimagined -as-Oz angle. Some good renditions of the songs too but alas, a bit too long in the end. I didn't mind Diana Ross, she brought a good naive childishness to the role but someone like Anika Noni Rose would KILL in this.

The film gets an overblown bad rap, it's really not that bad. Lumet did some great things with the imagery and wonderment of it all and there are some good highlights throughout. And I'm just glad it was adapted when it was because that stage show was so unique, it would've been a shame for it never to have transferred to the big screen.

LOL didn't expect to write more than a couple sentences but I like defending films that deserve a better reputation. And Lumet has done WAY worse. lol

Ross weeps. The Wiz.

For some oddball reason, I remembered the mural in the first shot and what the house looked like...I knew the answer, or thought I did...The quote just...cemented it, lol

Eric -- i wondered if people would get it just from that peek of the mural.

I like Diana Ross as Dorothy. After all these years, this film just gets better.
