The Year in Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain was everywhere on movie screens in 2011 and then everywhere on red carpets in early 2012. She even made time to talk to us! After all those high heels and gowns and red carpets and interviews and awards shows during this year's annual industry love in (aka the entire months of January & February) does she feel like an old pro in the space of two months?

Do you think she'll be sleeping through the month of March or is she already packing her bags and heading to the next film set?

And how many movies do you suppose she already filmed during the days whilst gliding down the red each evening?

Based on being a fan of her on the Facebook page that she (or her people pretending to be her) update regularly, she went pretty much straight from LA to the set of the Kathryn Bigelow movie. She is already there. She also posted a cute pic of her and her grandmother at the Vanity Fair party. Love her.

It just got announced today that Jessica Chastain's latest movie "Wilde Salome" will have its U.S. premiere at San Francisco's historic Castro Theater in March. Al Pacino, who directed, will be there and so will Tony Kushner -- hope Chastain shows up too! We hardly ever get big movie premieres like this in San Francisco!

I feel like she deserves a career honor Oscar already

Her performance in "Take Shelter" was astonishing. If she'd been nominated properly for that film, she would have/should have won the Oscar.

PATRYK -- i have to admit that the first timee through that movie i wasn't that wowed by her (thought it was the least of her performances this year) but the second time i was like "holy hell, she is doing so much with a pretty nothing role all told"

i seriously can't wait to see her bite into a great leading role. wonder when she'll get one?

Nathaniel - Quite soon. I decided (And 1/1000 of my decisions actually materialize so that's something) that I'll write a play for Winslet and Chastain to play sisters. OK, it will be a play but then it will be a movie so there you have it :)

Take Shelter was one of my favorite movies of last year, and Chastain was marevelous in it. What a shame that movie didn't generate much awards traction, but I give big kudos to the few organizations (e.g. Austin Film Critics Circle, Independent Spirit Awards) that singled out Chastain's performance for merit. More of her (and Shannon), please!

Your Year of Chastain picture show is great! I'd love to put on so many high heels and dresses for two months.

Well, all the stories about her age are coming out, so she's apparently been kicking around for awhile looking for a break. I'm so glad she got all of them at once because she is brilliant!

I wish those gossip sites would leave her alone because she's right that hollywood is sexist when it comes to actresses. If she doesn't want to reveal her real age, then let her be. So she can get the roles without prejudice.

It's so good to see such success come to someone as talented and sweet as she seems to be. I had no idea that she, like Viola Davis, also attended Julliard. Considering Davis's opinion about the school, I wonder what those inevitable conversations between the two were like.

I hadn't realized how busy she'd been on the promotional side of things until I saw the dates on those photos. Considering how sudden ubiquity can be a career dampener, she's done amazingly well. She just seemed to blend gracefully into the general landscape. We're left with an impression of her as someone we've known and liked for a while.

I'm glad that she has that career skill of making a favorable impression in the business. It's such a cheerful thing when artistic people can get lots of good work. But I guess she's been toiling on the aspect of getting work through good word of mouth for some time now. I'm glad it translated to ease and acceptance on the red carpet.

Good thing Chris Rock wasn't the Oscar host this year. He would have killed her career for a joke. PS is it true that they're not going to pay voice over actors minimum wage anymore because they don't actually do anything of value?

Does anyone know if WILD SALOME will get a release beyond the big evening at the Castro in San Francisco?

March 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPeter

can someones please explain to me the "age issue." her imdb clearly states 1981

March 1, 2012 | Unregistered Commenteraddewitt

I always get her and Amy Adams confused!! I saw ENCHANTED the other night on tv and thought wow I didnt know Jessica Chastain was in this

sigh

March 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDavid

Addewitt, apparently she's not 30 but actually 35. Some old documents, interviews and such have surfaced online revealing her real age. She never said for a fact what her real age was, just toyed with the idea of being somewhere around 30, but never gave a definitive number but it appears it has leaked she is in fact 35.

Which shouldnt matter at all because she is great.

March 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

She is great, and it shouldn't matter, but alas, in Hollywood, age does matter, especially for women. I hope she makes the next few years count with some terrific work.

March 1, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPeter

she is beautifull

March 1, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterdani tri mujianto

Yes, its like once you hit mid 40s that's it. Unless you're a Streep,Kidman, Winslet type. Either way Jessica never said how old she was and she's still young and talented

There was also a very similar story regarding agness deyn, who was 23 when she claimed to Be eighteen and is now 29! And there is evidence beyonce lies about her age as well.

If most celebrities claim to be five years older than they actually are, then I'm in peace with blake lively being 29! There is no way that person is 24!!! No way!!!

I personally have a hard time believing Scarjo and Emma Stone's age as well. Not that it makes any difference, but they shouldnt have to lie about it.

March 2, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmanda

There's actually no evidence that Beyonce or Blake are lying about their age. There are high-school pictures of Blake puts her at the right age. There are plenty of childhood pictures and performances of Beyonce that puts her at the right age as well, unless she had some growth deficits and her whole family are lying about their ages as well. I mean a 7 year old doesn't look like a 12 year old. Not that I'm a fan of either. Lying about your age would be difficult for anyone.

March 2, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMelissa

I don't mean to snark, but what was going on with her hair around mid January. Did it just grow really reallly fast?
