Box Office: Muscle Cars, Curvy Androids, and Eternal Youth
The concept of characters that don't age insures of at least one thing: they don't usually get to have sequels without looking ridiculous. Adaline may never age but her actressy vessell Blake Lively will. Still Blake had a good opening for what looked like a ridiculous movie so kudos to her! In other box office news, Furious 7 continued to the success story of the film year having already cracked a billion worldwide and bound to be more succesful domestically than anything released last year since it will soon surpass Katniss and that Sniper.
The happiest news for cinephiles is the success of A24's thinky sexy sci-fi oddity Ex Machina as it went into wide release with a per screen average as good as most of its competition. Russell Crowe's directorial debut (he also stars) The Water Diviner kicked off its US run without much fanfare but still managed over a million in limited release.

Where does the Noah Baumbach film land on these charts?
I saw Clouds of Sils Maria this weekend, and I really liked it.
I am sick at home so it was cable and Netflix for me: The Babadook (which I expected to be better), Altar (a horror movie with Olivia Williams which was not good), A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (which really impressed me, very beautiful to look at and, although somewhat minimalist in plot, very engaging), and Dolphin Tale 2 (which was cute). As you can see, I am an horror movie fan.
I loved Age of Adaline -- there was something very 90s about it. Surprisingly it worked and Blake seems to have grown as an actress. Her diction is way better.
9 to 5 was on tv so I watched it to see all the best shots. My favourite part was the opening with all the ladies heading off to work set to the song. Stuff like that always makes me want to pack it up and become an independent lady in New York City. The rest of it could never live up to that.
I've also been snooping around the Sony emails. It's all so fascinating to see how the business actually works. And sometimes hilarious. This is in an email from Amy Pascal:
I told you about simon cowell monkees project right. The monkees with real monkeys - psycho doing with animal logic like they are shark thing.
I think this is the movie musical we've all been waiting for!
I watched Clouds of Sils Maria and Going Clear. I was impressed with both. I wanted even more Kristen Stewart in Clouds, which is a testament to how great she was in it.
I saw a special screening of Saint Laurent and I loved it as much as I expected to.
Bonnello was there to introduce it. Fortunately, Ulliel, Renier and Garrel were not. I do not know what I would have done!!! Throw myself at their feet?
I saw Avengers 2. Didn't it open in the US?
I visited my sister in Boston and went to a bunch of screenings at IFF Boston, a great local indie film fest. I saw The Overnight, Stray Dog, Best Enemies, Slow West, The Look of Silence (2nd viewing of that, still amazing) and Sunshine Superman. I liked everything I saw a lot. A great weekend of moviegoing.
I saw the new Patrik-Ian Polk film, Blackbird, which is in limited release (New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.). Surprised it hasn't received coverage here. It's a smart, funny, somewhat faithful adaptation of the Larry Duplechan novel. Not your average "coming out" or "coming of age" drama. Very refreshing to see Black teens portrayed as teens and not "problems," while the main character's angst over reconciling his (mother's) religious beliefs with his bubbling sexual feelings/desire for men was very authentic (not to mention heartbreaking). A solid B+.
I caught Age of Adaline (melodramatic, not very good, and yet not very bad either), Ex Machina (very cool), and The Way He Looks (incredibly sweet).
NewMoonSon -- i haven't even heard of this movie so thanks for the heads up.
Micael -- it did not. You got it a week earlier than us.
I saw Ex Machina on Saturday evening, which was the adult film-going experience I needed after viewing Unfriended in the theatre last week. I was struck by the level of suspense the director was able to inject into the film from start to finish, and I honestly didn't expect that ending.
"Clouds of Sils Maria" last week. I loved "Summer Hours," but "Sils Maria" had me rolling my eyes a lot. Juliette Binoche was terrific, but I think I just don't have any patience watching actors go through their process. What we see of "Maloja Snake," the play within the movie, makes it seem like an insufferable production to sit through.
I saw Clouds of Sils Maria, and I was disappointed. Despite great acting from Binoche and Stewart, I thought the movie lost focus of what it was trying to say. There was a lot of extraneous exposition and dialog that simply got in the way. And if the film had started with staging of the play around the halfway mark, it could have been a much stronger story.
Nathaniel - I think Nick also talked about it on his blog.
I saw "The Philadelphia Story" - loved it. The acting and writing were just fantastic. Well, except for when the script had her father blame HER for him cheating on his wife and then she later apologizes to HIM. Ugh. Oh, and the face plant at the very beginning of the movie. You know, that dated, sexist stuff. But other than that, really charming. I loved how James Stewart really dug into the aggressive, disdainful side and he's probably the best hiccup-er in movies ever (an underestimated talent!) plus his big scene with Hepburn was just fantastic. And I'm so glad she still ended up with Grant because really, they are just perfect for each other. I just wish the two of them had one more scene to really clinch the chemistry and spark between them to justify the ending.
Oh, and the face plant at the very beginning of the movie. , that dated, sexist stuff. However other than that, I cherished how James Stewart surely dug into the aggressive, disdainful facet and he's possibly the pleasant hiccup-er in movies ever into simply terrific. And I'm so glad she nevertheless ended up with supply due to the fact simply, they are for each other As a writer I say Best cheap essay writing service

I saw Billows of Sils Maria, and I was frustrated. Regardless of extraordinary acting from Binoche and Stewart, I thought the motion picture lost focal point of what it was endeavoring to state. There was a great deal of superfluous composition and discourse that basically acted as a burden. Furthermore, if the film had begun with organizing of the play around the midway stamp, it could have been a significantly more grounded story.
Preschool
I saw Ex Ma-china on Saturday evening, which was the porno going background I required subsequent to survey Unfriended in the auditorium a week ago. I was struck by the level of anticipation the executive could infuse into the film from beginning to end, and I genuinely didn't expect that closure.

I went by my sister in California and went to a group of screenings at IFF Boston, an incredible neighborhood non mainstream film fest. I saw The Overnight, Stray Dog, Best Enemies, Slow West, The Look of Silence (second survey of that, as yet astounding) and Sunshine Superman. I enjoyed all that I saw a considerable measure. An awesome few days of movie going.

Best Heated Cat Beds
The bed is soft, so it particularly suits older cats, giving it a comfortable place to sleep on the floor. Because it is so comfortable your pet is less likely to sleep in your bed. Frankly, although they are very cute, your pet can spread diseases to humans so it is best if they have a comfortable place they love to sleep in near you but not on the bed.
