Those Kohls Oscar Speech Commercials

Oscar night was  thin with fun movie-related commercials. Coming out ahead in that vacuum was department store Kohls with a series of kooky commercials with actors lipsyncing to Oscar speeches. This one here brings back memories of my own Oscar-obsessed childhood:

The downside of this goofy series of commercials is that they're not immediatedly recognizable or memorable. Imagine how much more hilarious they could have been if we'd been given an iconic "It came true" or "I'm so in love with my brother right now".

Actor clearances surely played a factor - it's okay to laugh at yourself, kids. We were however treated to one infamous speech, in perhaps the most charming of the set:

What memorable speeches would get you lipsyncing at home?

I'm so embarrassed to say that I don't recognize the second speech which you're calling "infamous" hmmmm. was i on a bathroom break at that moment that year (whichever year it was) the first commercial posted though LOVED. i'd recognize that voice anywhere, Scott Man!

I'm not entirely sure on the second speech, either. Is it Cuba Gooding, Jr.?

That second one is clearly Cuba, guys!

It came true is not iconic. The absence of Streep's Iron Lady speech is a missed opportunity for these commercials.

/3rtful -- i'd argue that "it came true" is most certainly iconic. It generated shitloads of internet hate and everyone knows exactly where the quote came from.

Halle Berry's speech and Marion's teary "it is true - there is some angels in this city" will always stand out in my mind.

Hathaway's speech is not iconic. Internet mocking is standard practice especially for women winning Oscars.

Berry, Cotillard, Bullock, and Streep gave iconic speeches for Lead Actress winners this decade and the last.

I will confess that the only speech I recognized was Cuba Gooding Jr's speech, and it wasn't until until the end

And as far as memorable Oscsr speeches go I'd definitely go with Kunio Kato's speech from winning Best Animated Short for La Maison en Petits Cubes

Nathaniel - I first thought you meant my reference to the "love my brother" speech and was AGHAST

/3rtful - yeahhhh if you want to have a boat load of gays respond with "UGH!", try tweeting "It came true."

Let's give Anna Kendrick the last word on the "It came true" question.

"I have an American agent who is the spitting image of this. Really truly, the same shape head and, it has to be said...the buttocks." That would definitely be my go to. That or a simple "Holy mackerel!"

I wonder if they can just use celebrities' voices for these without their permission? Love that they used Pé's speech tho! I thought hers was great.

Loved the Cuba... actually loved all of these so much. Did they do Penelope Cruz or did I dream that?
