Happy Birthday, Robin Weigert!

How will you celebrate the birth of one of our most underrated supporting actresses of the stage and screen today? Will you:
- hang out in a diorama and monologue about pain, as she did in Angels in America?
- drink and cuss up a storm, like her Emmy nominated Calamity Jane from Deadwood?
- break from procedure to help someone in need, like her Big Little Lies therapist?
- bump your head and get kinky, a la Concussion?
- have three distinct personas, like each different woman she played on Law and Order?
When did you fall in love with this scene stealer?

I'd seen her in a bunch of stuff, but she was SO FREAKING GOOD in Big Little Lies.
My go-to metric for scene stealing work is how hilariously overshadowed a big name actor is in the interaction with them. The best example of this is how dumbfounded Meryl Streep is during her scene with Viola Davis in Doubt.
Nicole Kidman was fantastic in BLL, but Weigert blew her away during those therapy sessions. No bombast, no drama, no screaming, just quiet intensity. She needs an Emmy...
She was so bewitching in Angels in America -- I think about that monologue all the time! I loved her in Concussion (Oscar-worthy performance) and Big Little Lies (Emmy-worthy performance).
What Ben said - I knew who she was and had seen her in other things, but she blew me away in Big Little Lies.
I love her calming presence in Big Little Lies. A Quiet powerhouse.
She's a delight whenever she pops up, no matter how small a role, in TV series or movies.
THIS. This post. This post is why I love The Film Experience so much. Who else is dedicating space to Robin Freakin Weigert, one of the most underrated actors we have. She blows me away every time.
To honor her....I'm going to get an apartment, stock the fridge....but I'm gonna get drunk and cuss up a storm while I do it.
I didn't even realize that was HER as the mannequin in Angels in America.
It's a long shot but I'm hoping she gets an Emmy nom for BLL.
Most familiar with her work in Deadwood (she played one of the main characters) and Lost but I've probably seen her in other things too. Wouldn't mind seeing more of her!
Her Calamity Jane in Deadwood was unforgettable and very, very brave.

Synecdoche, New York. I'm a fan ever since.
Angels in America (2002) and Loggerheads (2005).
