Saoirse, Queen of Looks

Chris here. Two Mary Queen of Scots posters have arrived and the internet has already gone monosyllabic. Saorise Ronan and Margot Robbie are here in vivid primary colors, and honey, they are not here for any of your crap. Given the Ronan has also landed the cover of next month's Vogue, rest assured that Focus Features is hitting the pavement hard and early to solidify one of this year's Best Actress frontrunners. Before the trailer arrives tomorrow and we finally get a glimpse of Ronan's titular role heroine opposite Robbie's Queen Elizabeth, tell us which velvet high collar look is giving you goosebumps!

both

They both look great but Saoirse looks very "medieval" and those blue eyes!

Ronan all the way.... cannot wait for this movie.

I have been waiting since Streep and, I think, Close were looking at it a number of years ago.

July 11, 2018 | Unregistered Commenterrdf

@rdf: You are right. It was going to be Meryl Streep and Glenn Close. But that must have been 20 years ago. The project never went into production.

I’m so fucking gay

July 11, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterBushwick

Someone fainted. Who?

July 11, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterFeline Justice

Marcos: Wow. A Meryl Streep-Glenn Close movie? So, basically, Heat 2: British Royalty Edition?

July 11, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterVolvagia

As I posted on Twitter, I just can't see anything other than how much Margot looks like Helena Bonham Carter in Alice in Wonderland.

July 11, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterDancin' Dan

Wow.... go Ronan.

July 11, 2018 | Unregistered Commenterthevoid99

Ronan reads as period, while Robbie reads far too modern (to me). The saturated color and coil of her wig are bananas, but perhaps that’s more the poster art than what we’ll see on screen.

Great posters

July 11, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterJaragon

I don't think they should promote both actresses as equals. That's gonna cause category confusion and vote-splitting.

July 11, 2018 | Unregistered Commentercal roth

Gives me a strong Elizabeth: The Golden Age vibe and I don't like it.

July 11, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterPeggy Sue

Why not BORN TO RULE for Elizabeth?
But wow stunning posters!
I cam't wait for this, whether it's gonna be great or a campy mess.

July 11, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterSTFU

The two together. It should be a law that every theater use both, placed in side-by-side kiosks.

July 11, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterDan H

Both of these actresses are WAY too young to be playing these monarchs at the time in history this film is covering.

July 11, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterTyler

Robbie is pretty under-rated as an actress here. she has serious chops

July 11, 2018 | Unregistered Commenterhuh

I'll see anything with Ronan, but skip everything Robbie.

July 11, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterUgh

I love Ronan but, seriously, it will be hard to top what Samantha Morton accomplished in just few scenes in Elizabeth The Golden Age. She was truly terrific.

July 12, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterFerdi

Yeah, “born to power” seems “off” for Elizabeth since her mother was beheaded and all (quite a precarious position!). Also weird is the “Elizabeth as Queen of Hearts” styling. Will show up for Ronan, obviously.

July 12, 2018 | Unregistered Commentercatbaskets

catbaskets: But Born to Rule is off too, because that implies seeking power as opposed to holding onto power you're already born into. Born to Endure would probably be the most accurate three word summary.

July 12, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterVolvagia

Gorgeous posters!! I agreed tt Queen Saoirse's is more striking n boy she looks like a medieval painting!!

Its wld b interesting to see Streep/Close version if it had come to fruition. Who's gonna play who in their version??

The taglines r a bit off for me.. Why not Born to Love for Mary, n Born to Rule (gd suggestion, @catbaskets!) for Elizabeth?

July 12, 2018 | Unregistered CommenterClaran

Streep purportedly went and did One True Thing when her Mary & Elizabeth film with Close failed to materialize. So now you know what she *did* do instead.
