Cannes film festival and all the titles
I loved, loved Sunset. So moving and suspenseful. Shame it’s gotten such a
critical thrubbing.
I'm wondering if Rocketman will top Bohemian Rhapsody at the box office.
I randomly thought about Naomi Watts in St Vincent this morning... has there been a more random awards nomination in the last 20 years? Sarah Silverman is up there but Naomi Watts is just odd, odd, odd and I can’t even begin to fathom how it came to be 😂
Keeping my fingers crossed that Malick's A Hidden Life is a return to form and not just a continuation of his last three "experimental" movies.
The upcoming 2001 Supporting Actress Smackdown, interestingly enough. Actually that whole Oscar season, period. I've always found it annoying that one film can bring down the overall quality of a catagory. That year it was A Beautiful Mind in everyone of its nominations.
Bacurau at Cannes!! 🇧🇷
Suspiria and the zeeeeeeeee
Thinking about how much I want Winslet to work with Lanthimos. She was supposed to have Weisz's role in The Favourite.
Cannes!
Elle Fanning wearing Gucci last night.
I'm thinking about who is going to get casted as the current political players in the inevitable movie and how they will attempt to do it as a straight drama.
Midsommar! Cannot wait!!
Wondering the impact of Meryl Streep in upcoming Big Little Lies.
Selena Gomez stealing the show at Cannes. Wow!!!!! Plus, I like her views on social media. I'm glad she's starting to move on from ugh.... Justin Bieber.
After watching "Tolkien" with Nicholas Hoult, you know I had to revisit all three of Peter Jackson's perfect "Lord of the Rings" films. I do so every few years.
I bought The Landlord -- it finally came out on blu-ray. Diana Sands! Lee Grant! Pearl Bailey! Such great supporting actressing. I need to seek out more of their work and do a Hal Ashby marathon ASAP. The 70's was such an interesting decade in cinema.
I fear that Barbra Streisand's career in motion pictures as an actress and a director are over.
She just isn't stepping up to the plate. Certainly her legend is secure but would love to see that cinematic bookend to match her glorious film debut.
Unfortunately if this is it for BJS how apt is the T. S. Eliot quote "This is the way it ended not with a bang but a whimper"
Still thinking about Farhadi's "A Separation" from Michael C.'s great write-up the other day.
Also watching a ton of videos of Streisand singing with various talented folk for her album of movie people singing Broadway, including Patrick Wilson - why can't he be in a musical? Let's have less of these sub-par singers, get Patrick Wilson to do it.
I need to get to the local library and check out some Doris Day DVDs if they have them.
Amy Adams receiving her 7th Oscar nomination next January for The Woman in the Window...
I'm strangely excited for Rocketman. I think people should just ignore Bohemian Rhapsody's existence when judging it.
I just watched the Mike Mills short film/video album I Am Easy To Find that he made with The National. It will be on my cinematic mind for quite a while.
Suzanne -- agreed but it will be easier said than done given the proximity in time frame, pop star type, release date closeness, and sharing half a director .
Thoughts on Elizabeth Taylor is The Comedians.
What's up, doc? is simply hilarious. I loved every second of it.
Miss Streisand on film as well but her playing Mama Rose was a horrible idea. 20 years ago? Hell yeah!
I hear you, Gay Senior. Just one more Masterpiece, Babs!
Gay Icon Johnny Mathis tonight, Country Hunk Eric Church tomorrow, Long Beach Pride this weekend with Ada Vox, Big Freedia, and a STILL UNKNOWN Headliner (according to the website).
How do these people make a movie together?
I was re-watching two Hitchcock classics- "The Birds " which is perfect and the problematic "Marnie" which I find more interesting every time I watch it
@Jaragon I'll have to rewatch "The Birds" - Hitchcock's classics always hold up, I haven't rewatched that one in 15 years or so.
