Oh, I'm super-excited that BeKindRewind is going to be a panelist for 1987!! Her YouTube series is really wonderful, I'm a huge fan.

1993 would be a perfect Perfect Storm to start there.

Where are you all finding these films for the older movies???? Please advise!!!

Are you rushing to finish all the remaining years now? Will you redo the years that Lulu did? Or will another category be tackled? I'm guessing Lead Actress given the site's obsession with actresses.

Can't wait to discover the movies of 1938 for the next. Recently finished "You Can't Take It With You" and have a copy of "Of Human Hearts" in the house now. then 3 more to go. Looking forward to learning which panelists you snagged for this one!

Q -- weighing our options. We definitely have a year left before we're done with supporting actresses. It's a LOT of work. So i'm not sure we'll do Best Actress but you never know.

Thank you Nathaniel, I’m looking forward to the remaining years... almost ready to vote for ‘38 (those were some surprisingly oddball films, even if not many were that “good”), and ‘87 looks like it’ll be fun finale!!

Do you also have individual writers paypal/venmos/whatevers? I'd love to donate half to the site and half to an individual writer, but have been burned in the past with the control of fund distribution being suspicious when controlled and overseen by a single person.

Thank you in advance for your answer and incredible work. xo
Iris.

Iris -- that's a good idea. I'll see if the writers want to add theirs to the "about" page. It's always been me just doing things manually.

Nathaniel, I would love to support but Paypal is not available, are there any other options avialable? Patreon perhaps?

August 22, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterRizz

That would be wonderful and easy to impliment if concented to. I know I sound a little paranoid, but I've had much folks much nicer appearing than even you our gracious host end up being revealed to take group/community donations almost all to their own needs/desires. Transparency in any monetary transaction is always the best course of action. Plus we'd know if our donations from a certain month went to general overhead, film festival visits (when allowable again), or great series like the Smackdown, Almost There, Seasons of Bette, etc.

Hopefully Youtube can make participating in the 38 Smackdown possible. Will be a fun read regardless and my bet's on Bainter. xo
Iris.

the smackdown I am waiting the most... 1993 supporting actress...

1. Paquin (winner)
2. Pérez
3. Thompson
4. Hunter
5. Ryder

I remember being in shock, that they, for once, gave it to a child... and I was actually pissed that only the female stars of The Piano were nominated, as both Keytel and Neill deserved the nom, too. One of the not so many cases in which a film could have been nominated at the four acting Oscars and with actual chances to win then all (Network, maybe the best example?)... Paquin in the end, has one of the best debut performances in film history, and without her performance, the film could have easily failed... and it was obviously, the most difficult role to cast.

Always be sure to have the cutoff date for reader’s votes in each Smackdown update.

@Jesus Alonso

1993 was already covered in the days the smackdown belonged to Stinky Lulu

1987 is such an oddly fascinating Oscar year. The 80s in general weren't great but 1987 is one I could discuss for a yonks age. Really interested to see how this category pans out.

October 17, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterArkaan

My money's on Anne Ramsay.

October 18, 2020 | Unregistered CommenterSeggy Poo

2002 is the year when two Spanish actors got snubbed of Oscar noms (and maybe wins, probably in Supporting, even if I feel it would have been cathegory fraud, as I think of them as co-leads)... Javier Cámara in Talk to Her and Maribel Verdú in Y tu mamá también (who was better than any of the five leads nominated, imho). In Supporting, it would have been a hard time to pick up between Verdú and Zeta Jones, to me... so I decide Verdú would win in Lead and Zeta Jones in Supporting if I gave the awards.

Eoin thank you, I checked it out. Surprised they got my same winner, Paquin.

Also surprised people would call her "untalented" when she went on to win a Golden Globe as an adult and probably only "Margaret"'s troubled post-production kept her for coming back to Oscar night, given buzz and reviews.
