Curio: To Domhnall on his 37th Birthday

Digital painting by MenekahCurated by Nathaniel R

This week's episode of Curio is inspired by a recent screening of the first four episodes of HBO's Run. The series is so unusual in its pacing, withholding, character work, and sense of untethered possibility that it's difficult to say what it might amount to once the season (or series) is a wrap. On a scene by scene basis, though, it's a thrill. That's due at least in immeasurable part, to the chemistry between series stars Merrit Wever and Domhnall Gleeson. Neither of them are generally tasked with selling this kind of romantic comedy / sexy yearning and the series is all the better for that. So fresh!

With today being Domnhall Gleeson's birthday, let's look at how arts and crafts people capture his ginger gorgeousity...

Original watercolor, for sale from Yellow Salamander

The same artist (don't know their name but they go by Keidy-111)

Here's an About Time themed pillow in case you want to lean your head against Domhnall.

And speaking of pillows this one is for the truly obsessive Domnhall stans.

A portrait study of his role in Goodbye Christopher Robin

And naturally a lot of the art is Star Wars related -- that happens to every actor that steps into that galaxy far far away.

And since all genre fandoms eventually lean hard into slash fic, here's an intimate moment with Kyro Ren and General Hux.

And if you search for any variation of the names Kylo and Hux online (together) you'll get lots of queer drawings of their relationship like this one found at inchells reblog blog (though I'm not sure who the artist is. Apologies!)  The #kylux tag on that tumblr suggests there's a way to buy these drawings or a pre-order book or something but I wasn't able to find a link (not sure how any artists sell their wares on tumblr since links and credits as to who created things are practically anathema on tumblr for some reason!)

BUT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL POINT. ARE YOU WATCHING "RUN"?

In answer to your question: of course!
Reasons:
1. Merrit Wever, a fascinating actress, so interesting in every role
2. Domnhall Gleeson, always intriguing (and he gets to use his real accent, a plus)
3. Archie Panjabi - love her! She never ages.
4. Producer P W-B and Writer Vicky Jones. Jones wrote an episode starring Jodie Comer of Snatches: Moments in Womens' Lives, a very good monologue series that aired in the UK.
5. A train - gawd, trains are so thrilling and sexy
6. Half an hour episodes - perfect!

Love the guy. Probably the only actor out there without any muscles. A rare breed.

Nathaniel, there's a shadow hanging over me: are we still getting the Oscars? I watched a couple minutes of that thing you did online with Sasha Stone and this beautiful guy was saying that we could have a combined 2020/21 edition. Thoughts?

Yup, seeing RUN! For me, it's all about the ride/journey. The concept is thrilling and, as you say, the chemistry between Weaver and Domnhall is sizzling. There is some inconsistencies and some of the wrinkles are peeking through the further we get from the thrilling pilot. But again, I'm in it for the ride.

Absolutely watching it. Merrit Wever continues to surprise with her range and acting choices. She was fantastic in Unbelievable. Someone give her a big screen role.
Domnhall i wasn't as familiar with, what a great discovery
The pilot was thrilling, and I loved the first 4 episodes. The fifth episode took an unexpected turn which I fear will be a bridge too far, but I'm sticking with it. I like that I can't pin down the tone of the show; it's varied yet still gels together.
