Breakfast with... Mary Kay Place

by Nathaniel R

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is the way Mary Kay Place does it in The Safety of Objects (2001), with a rice cake, a cup of coffee, and a morning affirmation...

You gotta look yourself in the mirror every morning and you gotta say 'I Love Me' because if you love yourself that's one more person who will.

The rice cake and coffee aren't enough though. She smells something else in the kitchen while giving life lessons to baby Kristen Stewart...

I knew it. I have a nose for empty addictive calories!

Pop-tarts to go.

Have a great morning, everyone!

LOVE her. Zero projects in pre-production. Shame on you, Hollywood!

I was excited to find a $1 copy of this at a charity shop just yesterday!
I never expected this forgotten little gem to come up twice in two days!
Mary Kay Place is a treasure. We did a full watch of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman in quarantine and now can't stop imitating her character's "parTICulaR" cadence.

Mary Kay Place is indeed a national treasure. I suggest watching Manny & Lo as she is just incredible in that film and her scenes with a then-10 year old Scar-Jo 3:16 are a delight to watch.

every time i think of her now i think of aubrey plaza's opening bit at the spirit awards a couple of years ago, firstly praising j lo for being there the week after her superbowl performance and then asking "what did you do last weekend, mary kay place? nothing, you lazy sack of shit. just kidding, you're a national treasure"
