Welcome!

"Willkommen, Velkommen,  환영합니다 Aloha, Bem-vindo, Bienvenue, 欢迎, Bienvenido, مرحبا بكم, Vítejte, etcetera"

A fresh new year, a fresh new site! HAPPY 2011. The Film Experience is nearly "whole" as it were, merging its many parts. You may experience a few kinks for the first week(s) of January, but please look around and explore. Minor suggestions (i.e. don't say "start all over"), congratulatory compliments and everyday chatter are as welcome in the comments as you are to The Film Experience itself. We'll probably need a week to get up to speed at our newly renovated home.

While you're here check out the top films lists from decades past, the galleries, the calendar ("agenda" tab works best), the Oscar prediction charts (freshly updated with new commentary), our own kudos ("the film bitch awards"). We're still working on importing the recent contents of filmexperience.blogspot.com and the old articles from the site but new blogposts will now be right here at the home page.

Oscar nomination morning is but 3 weeks away! So let us know what you think of the new predictions.

"Cheers, Prost, Sláinte, L'Chaim, Skål"

The Film Experience loves the Academy Awards but it's a site primarily devoted to the love of movies. We mostly just believe in the Oscars as a door into that magical world, or a gateway drug if you prefer. If you're new to the site, please check out the "about" page. Rest assured that many of the series you know and love from the blog will return here over the course of the next month or two, and there's also a couple of huge anniversaries coming up in 2011 that we'll have to pull out all the stops for: Moulin Rouge! (2001) turns 10 this summer. West Side Story (1961) turns 50 toward the end of the year and that's just the two titans.

Here's to 2011!

The only glaring thing I see is that both FiLM BiTCH archives lead to the 2009 awards, while one is supposed to lead to the 2008 awards. Past that, I'm in love with the redesign. So much easier to navigate than the old one. Great work! Can't wait for the Top Ten and this year's FiLM BiTCH to be announced!

Hi Kevin. You are the FIRST COMMENTER at the renovated site. How exciting. Although i'm not sure the url is working correctly just yet because for me it goes to the old site. curious.

January 1, 2011 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

Love the site Nat. Congrats and have a Happy New Year! Can't wait for the Film Bitch Awards :)

This is a fabulous new design, and a site such as this deserves a facelift. While enough elements from the original site/blog are kept for the sake of recognition (and nostalgia?), there's new stuff to keep regulars both entertained and intrigued. It's highly attractive in look-and-feel, and it's extremely easy to navigate to subsequent sections. From a web design perspective, this is a home run.

That said, while the charts are marvelously done, I do somewhat miss the color-coded system for locks, sure-bets, etc. Perhaps if just the words were differently colored to fit the new design? Pretty minor, but it's what stuck out to me first.

I'm sooo excited for this website.
I haven't looked around at all yet though.
I just came right to commenting.

January 1, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAmir

Roger -- i miss that too. I'm having trouble figuring out how to get it to work in this different software. hmmm.

I'm confused about how y'all are seeing this though because if i go to the normal url i still go the other page. or the "under construction" page. hmmm. I'm only commenting through the behind the scenes stuff. strange.

January 1, 2011 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

What a great start, Congrats!

January 1, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterDean

I'm thrilled to have been the first to comment on the site! And that it seems to be up again! Hopefully it's smooth sailing from here :)

January 1, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterKevin

The site is amazing! So much easier to navigate! And I didn't even realize that the old site was tough to navigate just because I loved it so much.

January 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSteve

Congrats? The site looks great!

January 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJulien

Oops that wasn't a question mark!

January 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJulien

Just one question: I see you put All that Heaven Allows as your favorite films of 1956, but isn't it a 1955 release?

January 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJulien

Hi Nathaniel, as a long time reader just wanted to say that the new site looks great. Looking forward to lots of great content especially the West Side Story birthday celebrations, Oscars and Film Bitch Awards!

January 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterChris D

Great to have you back just in time for the Oscar season Nat!

The new site design is appealing - sleek and trim. I love the pics on the top of the prediction pages showing the most recent winners! Nice touch. One other thing I would love, just to satisfy my own neuroses, would be if I could mouse over the pics at the top of the home page and get a description. Inevitably there is one picture among the theme (currently "on the phone") that I just can't place.

As far as you're current predictions, I"m always grateful for your perspective. Thanks, too, for not shying away from calling out the category fraud for Hailee Steinfeld! If anything, Bridges & Damon supported her.

Cheers on the new website, and best wishes.

January 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterTravis

Terribly excited for the new blog! (And this one isn't blocked at school!)

January 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMichael

Congrats! Pretty cool. I must say: I LOVE the photos you've chosen for your "favorite actresses" page!

January 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJames T

The site looks great. However, I can only access it on my phone. Firefox and Internet Explorer are directing to the Networks Solutions site that say "This Page Is Under Construction - Coming Soon!"

January 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterOtherRobert

Also, an error message about folder architecture pops up if you don't choose a subpage under the menu headers.

January 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterOtherRobert

Yay. glad people are liking. thanks for the suggestions to. I'm sure i'll spend the next week ironing out some bugs. And hopefully people will be able to get here without fail by tomorrow from firefox, safari, etcetera. it still seems to be fluctuating as to how you can acess.

January 2, 2011 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

My dashes – will look proper in the new format. Thanks Nate.

January 2, 2011 | Unregistered Commenter/3rtfu11

Congratulations on the brand new site!

January 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAlison Flynn

Hey Nathaniel, I do miss the color code system that you previously used (and to be honest I quite dislike the label at the bottom "GOLD=...", it doesn't look as nice) :( But other than that, FABULOUSSSSSS design. Such a cool site, really. It's easy and fun and very nice looking. Congrats and thanks for all your hard work! Really, great site.

One question though, do you have the whole "Predicted noms for each film" list anymore/anywhere in the Predictions section? I couldn't find it.

January 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSteve_Guy

Congratulations Nate! I'm so excited for you.

January 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterVince in WeHo

i do hope to bring back the color coding but can't figure out quite how to do it yet. for some reason it doesn't transfer as I expected it would. (I'm ditching dreamweaver which is just too cumbersome, time-consuming and i need non-expensive software options)

thanks for the comments thus far. When the site has no more issues (sometimes it's still a "coming soon" page) we'll start blogging here properly as well.

January 3, 2011 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

New site looks absolutely sensational. So excited to have woken up earlier this morning and seen it live and running on my end. Congrats on all the hard work.

January 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterNick Davis

I am getting more and more anxious for your top ten list! When will it be here?

January 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSteve

Congratulations on this new site, it's looks fantastic!! So is this where the blog is going to be too? Are you combining the two sites?

January 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJenn

Hi Nat! Happy New Year and congrats on the glorious new site!!! Yay!!!!

Hope to catch up very soon!

January 4, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterSusan P

Jenn -- i am combining the blog so you only have to go one place. Unfortunately something is still wrong. Drat.

January 4, 2011 | Registered CommenterNATHANIEL R

I got here fine! I was checking for new posts last night and it took me here for the first time and I was so excited, but then later in the night it wouldn't and said url not found. It's a beautiful site! Congrats!

Congrats with the face lift Nate! Looks very good and its SOO gooood to have you back dude!

I was totally blown away by Black Swan when I was lucky enough to watch it in DC during my American pre Christmas holiday.

January 7, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterManuel

Qué bonito! Que dure muchos años!

(I'm too lazy today to think in a different language and it never hurts learning a couple of common expressions in Spanish, they might come in handy if you ever meet JLo or Sofía Vergara)
