Haneke is always a winner at Cannes

Admission: never finished a Haneke film. Started Cache & White Ribbon. Found them intolerable..

-MURTADA

I was hoping a Palme d'or for Holy Motors might ensure I get to see the movie within the next 12 months. Palme or no Palme, the Haneke was bound to be released by the end of the year all the same.

Curio: Costumes, Designed

Alexa here. As I've been on a bit of a clothes-buying binge the last few days (Pats and Eddy were a less-than-subliminal influence), I thought of John Woo for my curio post this week.  No, not that John Woo; this John is an illustrator living in Hong Kong with a bit of a thing for Star Wars and fashion.  John makes illustrations of film characters dressed in the likes of Junya Watanabe, Comme des Garcons, and Band of Outsiders.  There is a J. Peterman vibe to the illustrations that I find hilarious. (Sidenote: remember when J. Peterman had all those Titanic-inspired items? Yeah, I bought the necklace. My only excuse is I was much, much younger then.) Here are some samples; you can buy prints at John's etsy shop.

The suits on the male character are very funny/ironic, but oddly enough the outfits on the two female characters here seem entirely appropriate to the characters as well as attractive. It actually took me a moment to realize that the Catwoman one was NOT her original costume, it fits so perfectly.

In terms of film costume or rather jewelry, I think I once saw a very good replica of the fancy diamond collar in Moulin Rouge on ebay, and I actually did consider it (where would I ever have worn it?) but it was a bit out of my pocketbook even as a fake piece.

That Catwoman looks a lot like Nicole Kidman

Yes, yes and yes.

That last one is absolutely perfect. She would wear the likes of him.
