There Can Be Only Link

Felix in Hollywood Hilarious Pauline Kael quote on A Place in the Sun
My New Plaid Pants wishes a happy birthday to the awesome Alessandro Nivola who never gets enough work or at least not the right kind of it.
Cartoon Brew an amusing very short animated film called Nest. Watch it.
Inside TV Matthew Weiner's favorite scene in this past season of Mad Men. Surprising cool choice.
Coming Soon Can't say I saw this coming but it looks like Edgar Wright may actually make Ant Man after all. I guess The Avengers will greenlight many an unlikely film. Though it's telling that nobody is talking about making a Scarlet Witch movie (sigh).

IndieWire "The League of Pan" huh? The Peter Pan mythos might become a TV series. I might be excited but IndieWire used a photo of the execrable Hook which killed my buzz. Abort. Abort. No Peter Pan projects is preferrable to that!
Playbill original cast members of The Sound of Music reminisce. Why? A new book is coming out.
Movie|Line Stephanie Zacharek (who often, to my recollection, understands the power of La Pfeiff) on People Like Us
Slant Kurt attends the press conference of To Rome With Love
Tor funny piece on Ryan Reynolds being the perfect choice for the reboot of Highlander

While post-Highlander Christopher Lambert seemed to actively choose movies that sucked, Ryan Reynolds simply can’t help it. He just slops into these parts, which is why theHighlander reboot is ideal for him. It’s an honest representation of exactly what he is in the culture: someone who will never die unless somebody does something terrible to him with a sword.

Hee.

Exit Music. Fiona Apple's "Hot Knife". It's so weird and self-contained and auto-erotic and annoying and hot and perfect. I love Fiona so much. Why must it be so interminably long between her CDs?

It's been a long time since she dated Paul Thomas Anderson but I think it should be mandatory that some genius auteur scoop her up.

Saw People Like Us at a midnight showing ... It was pretty much a Lifetime movie for me... As far as acting Banks was her usual great self... Pine .. Ok... Pfeiffer had a small part but a good scene .. will not further her career... everything I have read about the movie totally focuses on Pine and Banks, especially Pine.

I loved Hot Knife, but why another auteur should scoop Fiona up, when she still is a very good friend of PTA? ;) Apparently Paul begun to shoot a video for Hot Knife last year, before The Master started shooting (The Idler Wheel...was finished 2 years ago !!!) We need to cross our finger for that footage comes to light.

I have mixed feelings about Fiona's need for post breakup friendships. Paul has children with Maya Rudolph and while Apple gets Magnolia dedicated to her, Maya and their first daughter Pearl 'Minnie' receive There Will Be Blood and now that he has his boy, Jack, he'll dedicate The Master to them and their second daughter Lucille.

The Idler Wheel... hands down the album of the year. No validation from the Grammy's needed. Though they're nice and help with the marketing for future sells, actually listening to the record and knowing it is, is better.

I am driving my boyfriend so absolutely crazy playing Hot Knife over and over and over.

OT: I just woke up and one person on my Twitterfeed is talking about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes splitting up. I also remember you saying something about how Cruise's exes end up talking about working with Lars von Trier. I so excited!

I want Kathy Bates to work with Lars von Trier. She'll do nudity she really wants a second Oscar and earning another for Best Actress would do wonders for her confidence.

Goodness! Those kids from The Sound of Music have a reunion covered by the media every year, it seems! I remember one not two years ago on Good Morning America that had something to do with a book coming out and now another?

Someone somewhere keeps blowing the Captain's whistle!

New additions to the Academy - Some REALLY DUMB choices (and they've kept the TV trend going, adding Bryan Cranston (justifiably), Margo Martindale, Simon Baker and Sean Bean to last year invitee's John Corbett.

AND LOOKOUT PEOPLE, KATIE HOLMES IS COMING FOR HER OSCAR.

Oh Alessandro! I love him. He has such a beautiful ass. I loved him in Junebug and Laurel Canyon. Steve McQueen please call him.

I've been sort of in love with Alessandro ever since seeing him in "Mansfield Park". Emily Mortimer is a lucky woman. Also, has anyone else seen "Janie Jones"? The story is somewhat predictable, but I still ended up liking it a lot.

Why do people we love sometimes behave in indefensible ways? People Like Us doesn’t pretend to have the answers; what it does suggest is that there’s honor in handling your own disappointment like a grown-up.

Great... Just what I need after a break up :( :-(

@JA - you and Nat both! (although I will admit it's a pleasant break from the previous non-stop Madonna MDNA madness)

So when do we seriously start talking about Matthew McConaughey's Oscar Campaign? Well, all right all right...

Cannot get enough of that album, and the concert was incredible too. Musician, album, and concert of the year as far as I'm concerned. Even though I know she won't win, I'm still hoping she gets something just so she can get onstage and tell everyone that they're bullshit again. God I miss the 90s.

It was a thrill reading that Place In The Sun quote too though. How crazy is it that Shelley Winters was nominated for that crazy unlikeable character while young gorgeous ingenue Elizabeth Taylor in her breakout adult performance was overlooked? Talk about a total reversal of taste from Academy voters.

Not sure where to put this, but thought you'd like to know Nathaniel, Katie Holmes is looking to win an Oscar.

Joe...

That is the joke of the day ... she has had her day in the sun...
