October. It's a Wrap

Two months left to go and we wrap 2013. I can't believe how close to the Oscar thick of it we are. Before we really dive in (I'm off to LA again real soon) a last look back at October. We spent a lot of time with horror films of course (tis the season) for those well received "Before Exorcist / After Exorcist" lists... but what else was hot this month? Here are 11 more of our favorite posts.

Greta Gerwig talked to us about Frances Ha's Gotham snubbing
12 Years of Horrors one of my favorite episodes ever of the Podcast
Tom Hanks as all ages training wheels for movie-star loving
Her premiered at NYFF and Jose shared a few thoughts
The Fiennes Profile The Grand Budapest Hotel promos got us gawking at Ralph Fiennes again

Cate Blanchett Glenn spent an evening with her
American Hustle who has what to prove?
Crazy Possessed Ballerinas what do the movies have against toe shoes?
Supporting Actress Smackdown '68 Ruth's witchy triumph
Blue is the Warmest Color got many of you hot and bothered

Excited for November. Julie Delphy interview and Vivien Leigh centennial? Yes please!

Somebody's got to talk about Last Vegas, starring not one, not two, not three, not four, BUT FIVE FREAKIN' Oscar winners! The trailer is making me ill (as was the male stars' guest "hosting" this morning on the Today Show.) But, what if the movie is actually funny?????

You know, I like these end-of-months wrap-ups so much for the "Coming soon" portion.
There's always something like the Vivien Leigh centennial there to make me adjust my personal video rental priority list.
I've seen a lot of movies in my life, but somehow I've gone this long without seeing Gone with the Wind or Streetcar Named Desire. If I only have time to see one this month for the centennial (since time is precious), which should it be?

For a moment there I thought it said The Return of Jedi Dench.

So excited for the Vivien Leigh centennial! I'm sure you'll be covering the big two GWTW & Streetcar but I'm curious to see what others in her distressingly small filmography, only 20 films, you might review. Would love to hear your take on the film she made just prior to GWTW, Sidewalks of London with Charles Laughton where they play street performers or Waterloo Bridge or....well are her films are worth seeing.

Prepping for the next smackdown. Just watched Pieces of April-ugh, just have Thirteen left

Wolf of Wall Street back in the running for this year.

GWTW is the film that first made me love films and Leigh is wonderful in it. This was also one of the first times I read a book after seeing the movie and wasn't totally disappointed by how they had changed the characters to match the actor playing them. I also love the story of how she was cast against the burning of Atlanta. And apparently she was a sexual demon. Olivier would complain how he would come home from the studio after working all day and she would demand sex and he was exhausted.

I guess I have to finally break down and watch Cold Mountain if I want to participate in the next Smackdown.

Nathan, looking at the pic of Mia up there, I keep hearing her say: "This is not a dream. This is REALLY HAPPENING!!!!"

Solid photoshop. I'd be down for that series. Léa Seydoux photoshopped kissing actresses of yesteryear (or present year, I'm not picky).

Cannot wait for a Vivien Leigh retrospective! One of the holy trifecta of my childhood movie obsessions, with Elizabeth Taylor and Natalie Wood. Hope this means there will be a ton of GWTW coverage, which I've been thinking about even more than usual what with 12 Years A Slave making waves now.
