Curio: Oscar Food 2013
Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 9:09AM Alexa here. Every year the Oscars make me hungry. Maybe I'm feeling sympathy pangs for the starved nominees. Or maybe it's because, as my husband puts it, this is my Super Bowl: all that time in front of the television gives one an excuse to snack it up.
Here's what we came up with this year:

- Hushpuppies in honor of Beasts of the Southern Wild
- Crabby Snacks in honor of Silver Linings Playbook (recipe here)
- Thirty Dark Chocolate Zeros
- Les Miserables Miseraballs
- Argo Fudge Yourself
- Chocolate Djmangoes unchained
More Oscar foods from 'round the web after the jump (plus Jennifer Lawrence)
I also enjoyed this take on Beasts I found on flickr:

How about professional desserts?
Oscar fashion cookies by My Little Bakery.
Eleni's Bakery in New York does it again with their annual nominee sweets.
What did you serve at your party? Did this post make you hungry?
What do you think Jennifer Lawrence ate after the Oscars?

Share any punny food you consumed in the comments.
Curio,
Oscar Night,

I was not really as creative this year as I usually am (and I can't BELIEVE I never once thought of making hushpuppies. Especially since I LOVE them!):
Hors d'oeuvres: Crabby snacks and homemades (I'm assuming these were at every Oscar party), "Lincoln" logs (pretzels, meat sticks, etc.), Jean Valjean's loaf of stolen bread
Entrees: "Beast It!" Crack-Your-Own Crab, Life of (Pizza) Pi (with bits of seafood for toppings), Pigeon-in-a-Blanket (from Amour; picture what Amy Adams makes at the end of Julie & Julia, but with squab instead of duck)
Desserts: A bowl of Calvin Candies (all black and white, of course), After (Zero) Dark (Thirty) Mints
I couldn't think of what to do for Argo, so I made "Argo Fuck Yourself" T-Shirts and gave them as party favors when it won. If it hadn't won, that would have been embarrassing...
denny -- CALVIN CANDIES. how cute.
i miss throwing Oscar parties so much. I have had a curiously party-free existence for far too long. Must turn the ship around in 2013
Always one of my favorite aspects of an Oscar party. Our menu this year:
*Amour: Coupole (a wrinkly, aged cheese that looks like a brain....my husband works in a cheese shop....)
*Argo: Cauliflower Argo-ratin
*Beasts: Bathtub Gin Drink (lavender-infused gin with lemon juice and club soda)
*Django: White Cake with Strawberry Splatter
*Les Mis: Jean Valjean's Stolen Loaf of Bread (we had to cut costs somewhere...)
*Life of Pi: Salted Caramel Chocolate Pi(e)
*Lincoln: Sally Field Greens (brussels sprouts and kale salad)
*Silver Linings: Crabby Snacks & Homemades (duh)
*Zero Dark: Zero Dark Chocolate Thirtinis
Here's something I've done a couple years now: Honour, in food, the best films that DIDN'T wind up with Best Picture nominations. Try to guess the menu for this year and last.
My first time hosting an Oscar party yielded some fun ones. The main dish was Oscar Wieners on Supporting Rolls, but the menu also featured:
Beasts: Beets on the Southern Wild Greens
Amour & ZD30: Samours (s'mores) with Zero Dark 30% Cocoa Chocolate
Silver Linings: Eggs-elsior (deviled eggs)
Les Miz: French Freedom Fries
Django: DMangoes unchained (spicy mango salsa)
Plus Life of Pies (the easy choice), escARGOt, and Lincoln Cheese Logs.
To drink, we had sparkling Wine-steins.
(I also had a friend bring Creme Bru-les miz)
I wish I had the skill to reproduce gowns on cookies that faithfully..
We throw a big party each year. Here's what we had:
EscArgo
Beasts of the Southern Wild Rice
AbraHam n' Cheese Linclon
Life of PIE
Les Mizo (soup)
Dmango Unchained
ImPasta-ble
SkyFowl
