"My favorite movie about the theater is ALL ABOUT EVE, but then again that movie is my favorite movie about everything about movies and love and lust and life itself." - Jay

Reverse Shot 20 shots to be henceforth retired from film vocabulary

2. It starts off in a long shot and a guy's all far away and walking toward the camera and you're all “Uh-oh am I going to have to watch him walk the whole way?” and you do and it takes three minutes or more. “Ooh, look at me, I'm sculpting with time!” Fuck you.

Playbill Potentially great news. HBO picked up a series starring the underused Jonathan Groff, one of a group of gay friends in San Francisco. I hope they randomly let him sing in it.

And here's the trailer to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from Joss Whedon and Marvel.

I can't say that trailer sells me on it at all but Whedon has yet to make bad television, so I will definitely be their for the premiere. Whether or not it holds me, who can say? (Angel is the only Whedon series I didn't get religious about watching). You?

I liked the Whedon-ness of the S.H.I.E.L.D. trailer ("Someone really wanted our name to spell SHIELD"; "This wouldn't have been the easy way?"), and the Clark Gregg and Ming-Na of it all, but I lament the all-superhero, all-the-time state of our entertainment - and that Whedon was only listed as Director of The Avengers - because nobody cares about the culty little artistically superior TV shows he's created in the past. My secret desire is that this show becomes more like Alias than another superhero show, but I don't think that will happen.

I feel like I need to learn my lesson from Smash and not be over the moon on truncated versions of all of these pilots so I don't get disappointed. **sighs** Oh, Smash...

The pilot for Jonathan Groff's show was directed by Andrew Haigh, who also produces! That's a big selling point for me after "Weekend."

With you on at least checking out an episode or two of that show. Joss doesn't make bad TV, and this might be an intriguing way to grow the universe.

@CMG

Outside of those professionally involved in Smash, how can anyone mourn its demise?

A rubbish program from the pilot to its inevitable end. Anjelica Huston will catch the life-preserver thrown by Ryan Murphy soon enough.

That Reverse Shot piece reminded me of Andy Samberg's "Bottlecap" trailer for the Indie Spirit awards.
