/Film on the tight focus of Edgar Wright's Ant Man. In other words: yet another origin story. Does no one believe in 'In Media Res' anymore? Did the world learn nothing from 1977's Star Wars? Skip to chapter 4 people! Let the audience catch up. The last thing the world needs is another origin story. In this way the superhero genre is just as dull as the biopic, with their obsession with This Caused This! How Things Came To Be

On Superman? Yes, we ALL know his origin. On Batman? Yes, we ALL know his origin. On Spider-Man? Yes, we ALL know his origin. On those, the creative teams should definitely trust the audience knows everything important about the backstory and skip to the meat. On The Hulk? Mixed, especially since the original origin is pretty close to The Amazing Colossal Man, but there is the Bixby show version to fall back on if you want a quick flashback. Pretty much everyone else? Retelling's of "the origin" are not unjustified. They'll "get there" (maybe), but no one else is too overexposed yet.
Yeah I mean, normally I'd totally agree with you Nat on an exhaustion with origin stories, and I can see a version of Ant-Man working like you say because it's Edgar Wright and I can see Edgar Wright making anything be awesome and work... but I don't know anything about Ant Man. Nada, zilch, zip. And I've known (or at least suspected, thanks to rumor-mongering) that Edgar Wright was going to make this movie for years now, so you'd think I'd have done some homework at this point, but I was kind of just trusting Edgar and waiting to hear him tell me his version of who the hell this guy is. Granted he could totally do that by dropping us in the middle. But I'm not abhorred that it might be an origin story for this character. If usually reliably geektastic me doesn't know who he is, then a lot of folks probably don't.
Kit Harington - Mother may I ?
You may, Rami. You may.
I love how loose is Lily Tomlin about the whole marriage thing.
P.S. I'll insist. Brie Larsing won Best Actress at Locarno. I thought you'd be ecstatic. I know it doesn't mean a thing in terms of Oscar, but it's a nice statue!
JA & Volvagia -- i know you have a point. i think it was the tone, the self-congratulatory tone of "we'll focus on his origin!" as if this were a new idea. It's literally ALL superhero movies are, except 2nd and 3rd films before they reboot again. and those films usually have origin stories within them too as if we need to know the complete backstory of every character. it's maddening. how about just tell me a good story ?
Peggy Sue -- yay Brie
Good for Olsen, I was hoping she would break through more so she can start getting plum roles... she is very, very good.
